Yea I don't like it either, I bought a whole Stingray not just the emblem.
That is as bad as adding SS to any non SS car or putting Harley emblems on a Honda.
I'm a bad girl - I'm putting a Stingray emblem on my 79.

Like "check out my new "Corvette Cuda", or whatever. WTF?
You mean like a Mustang Cobra or Dodge Ram Longhorn?
...GM's '68 sales literature for the all new Corvette referred to it as a Stingray although there wasn't a badge to be found on it anywhere to back up that claim...So is it or is it not?...
It is not. The 68 sales material was printed in the spring of 67 long before actual 68 production began. Between the time of the printing and the beginning of production, the name was dropped.

Bill Mitchelll was a sport fishing enthusiast. He chose the name Sting Ray for the C2s.
Did you make those or are they available for purchase somewhere?
I made those with the help of World Famous Fiberglass Mike in Orlando, FL. He made the initial mold for me, and I modified them to fit the 70-72 openings.
Now Josh at Custom Image Corvettes has the mold and a couple other prototypes. He can re-create them for you.
According to the Judging Guide, this is Sting and Ray. One year only for 83s.

Many will agree that, to each their own and I like the way that looks, up close and especially, at a distance.
its kind of like putting C5 emblems on a C4, it seemed ok at first, my 87 came with them, but after I learned a bit , it wasnt purist b.s. just lame. I understood later year upgrades, engines , drivetrain, etc. , but that was more of a want-a-be. its your car though , have fun with it.
Some of the worst caterwalling comes from the C4 GS people whenever someone paints their car with anything resembling a GS; a stripe, or hash marks on the like on a non GS car.
But, if ya think that is bad, GM takes the cake! The C4 ZR-1s came out in 1990 with the convex rear facia and rectangular tail lights; instantly identifying it as a ZR-1. Those that paid double the going rate for the RPO ZR-1 suddenly lost the iconic uniqueness in 92 when GM swiched to the same style rear facia (with some tiny exceptions). And, then once or twice (or so) a year someone slaps ZR-1 badges all over a base C4 (with or without the convex facia/rectangular tail lights) and puts it on ebay or Craig's List as a ZR-1. (A couple years back, someone was selling a "ZR-1" on the "bay" and included a photo showing an L98 in the engine bay, but insisted it was a "ZR-1" motor. Turns out he was duped when he bought the car, and was now selling it as it was sold to him...badges and all! )

Gm did not want to badge the new 68 as a stingray. I wish that they would have left it that way. To me, a stingray is a 63-67 corvette. My 68 is a SHARK! Lou.

moosie982, You're right, I had a brain fade. I changed it to sting ray for the C-2's, just for you! I still say that they should have kept the name for the 63-67's only, to keep them unique. Lou.
"stingray" is an emblem on your car. the emblem does not make your car faster, it does not make your car handle better. a "stingray" is not better than a "corvette" it is a corvette with a nice emblem attached to it to make people 40 years down the road pay way more money for a car because it has a 10 dollar emblem on it.

no not at all like a mustang cobra. a mustang cobra is a higher performing mustang. a stingray is a corvette with a 10 dollar emblem put on at the gm factory. There are differences between a mustang and a mustang cobra other than two emblems and maybe some other minor thing that doesn't matter at all. so NO not at all like a mustang cobra
