rusty gauge cluster mount
I have the dash out of my 70 convertible and noticed that the gauge cluster mount was rusty. The inside is a green color and the back is bare steel.
I would like to remove rust and paint the cluster mount before putting it back together.
Does it matter if I do not paint the inside the same flat pale green color, and can I paint the back side as well, or will that effect the earthing of the gauges and lights.
Thanks
Jeremy

The back side was unpainted from the factory, same as the speedo and tach. The interior green helps with cluster illumination.

Jeremy.. the inside color is what is called "Jade" green.... you can get this from Krylon in a rattle can and it will work great. On the outside... "Dull Aluminum" will make it look close to correct and protect it a tad..
On another note: Car with rusty gauge "cans" as we call them.. usually have a water leak somewhere. Food for thought.
