Default Time for crate motor 1st oil change; Castrol? Royal Purple?

It's about time for my 350 crate engines first 3000 mile oil change. I'm not sure what the PO used during the break in period but I want to be consistent from here forward.

I have always been a Castrol Synthetic-blend guy, but have heard a lot about Royal Purple Synthetic lately.

Anyone have any recommendations as to what to use from here forward? The car isn't a daily driver and stays in the garage a lot.

I usually go with full syn in all cars lately, as seems were all the offers are lately, and blends are at most 25% syn. Latest deal was 5 quarts of Pennzoil Platinum syn with K&N filter for $32 bucks. Plus send in for $10 gift card. Gotten similar offers for Castrol Edge syn, ext. Don't think I'd kill myself getting Mobil One over one of the other brand syns. These are my kind of oil changes.

if it's a flat tappet engine, i use joe gibbs HR2 10-40 on my 383 stroker build. plenty of zinc and excellent reviews. been very happy with it so far (and like you i am being consistant from build date forward also).

Of the AMSOIL options, this is what I'd consider:
AMSOIL Z-ROD 10w30 Synthetic Motor Oil (Product Code ZRTQT)
(zinc – 1440 ppm, phosphorus 1320 ppm)

That's exactly what I use

Some local stores may carry it but I am a dealer so I buy direct. There is another dealer here that is a supporting vendor....

You can read this and many more threads on oil and decide.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...test-data.html

Personally, I use Zrod 10w30 but any oil w/ high zinc will be fine for your application.

Thanks for all the info guys. I've learned quite a bit.
AMSOIL Z-Rod it is. Now I just have to find some locally, unless the vendor wants to send me 5 free sample quarts

I probably can get it to your door cheaper than you can find it locally. More than happy to get AMSOIL products for forum members at dealer wholesale pricing, about 25% below retail, via the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program. Drop me a PM if interested.
