I'm going to call complete BS on that statement! I just watched his video, and as a person who has done this awesome mod over 2 yrs ago, I can say your buddy has 100% copied 7t2vette's idea!!! The only difference is buble tail lights and a different brand of led halos - otherwise it is identical!
It's pretty pathetic when someone tries to take credit for someone else's ideas.

For anyone wanting to do this conversion, I have ALL the parts available and for sale. I sold my corvette before I could install unfortunately. But that just means more savings for you!! Please see my for sale thread here - https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1592273713

Marking for reference. Compliments to the OP, very creative and well-written. I want to do some LED work to my '86, and this will be a primary reference for me.

Didn't see any cost information in the thread; does this sound about right:
1. HID Headlight set (assuming you're currently using incandescent); set includes 1 high beam, one low beam $34.95 + $17 shipping X 2 (cause you need 4 lights) = $87 assuming they'll merge them into one order and only charge you $17 shipping for 2 sets.
2. 1 set of 2 Sylvania Silverstar Ultra H1 and 1 set of 2 Silvania Silverstar Ultra H4 replacements bulbs ($32 and $30 on Amazon, respectively) =$62
3. Angel Eye LEDs 2 per order @ $24+$2 shipping from Ebay; x 2 =$52 http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-S-2Pcs-125...VWmIgm&vxp=mtr
=$201 ??
Is that possibly right or did I find low quality LED halos? (Because that price doesn't seem possible.)
Then if you're going with HIDs, you'll need to either upgrade your wiring and make it flow direct off the alternator to avoid the stock wiring voltage droop; or buy an expensive read-made wiring harness, right?
I'm curious if anyone has done this with LED lights vs. HID and then added the angel eyes/ halos? I'd prefer to save the alternator amps for electric fans, EFI, and a stereo, personally. I'd also love to not be dumping more heat into the engine compartment.
I'm also curious if anyone has tracked down an appropriate HID headlight set that comes with good bulbs like the Sylvania H1 and H4's so that you can merge #1 and #2 and not have to buy the actual bulbs that come with the lights in #1 and then effectively just trash them.
Do all of these hid lights require the tin snip modification or are there lights that would actually fit into the from--the-factor headlight assemblies?

Contrary to popular belief, LED lamps do produce heat!

As I wrote in the beginning of this thread, I did buy 2 different sets of commercially available 5.75" halo headlights, and they both were junk quality, and poor fitting.....which I may have overlooked, but the LED halos were pathetically dim, which is what pushed me to make my own.
Since then, it looks like Oracle and Octane (and maybe others) are now producing similar versions, but since I have no first-hand experience with their products, I cannot comment on the quality or fit of them.

I would recommend running full alternator voltage to the headlights through relays instead of through the stock switch.
As far as I know, none of the H1/H4 headlights available come with top quality lamps such as Sylvania.
I wouldn't use the LED halos you provided the link to simply because they have a small circuit board in the wiring - less to go wrong without it in my mind. I cannot comment on the quality of them without personal experience, but they look almost identical to what I used, and I bought all of mine from China.
The headlights housings I used are still available:

It seems it is harder to find 126mm LED halos, but 125mm halos such as these will also work:
