The picture doesn't show a good definition but you can see that the halos are clearly defined in the reflection in the car behind. Did it about two years ago, one of my favorite visual mods!

I bought the LED's newbvetteguy linked as at the time, it was the only ones I could get in 125 or 126mm. It appears the extra circuit board in them might be a voltage protection circuit, so if the voltage goes high, it doesnt blow the LED's. Im guessing most things are setup to take 12 volts, which means a much shorter life if you are feeding it 14v from the alternator.

Just ordered the halos for my taillights. Can't wait to put them in along with the led bulbs. Curious how did you know which part of the light bulb to file down to keep the running lights off on the bulb?

With the bulb removed, I used a tester to determine which of the two contacts had +12v with the running lights on.

In other words with the bulb removed you used the tester inside the socket. Then figured out which contact made contact with that post?

Exactly. The 1157 bulbs have two indexing pins on the side of them, so they can only be installed one way; the two index pins are at different heights.

I found this pic online, and it looks to be correct based on the pic I posted on the second page of this thread.

Default Thanks to 7t2vette!

Add me to the list!

Used the COB lights from China referenced on page 5 of this thread:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/182289214649?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Added a resistor to knock down the brightness just a tad. Think they will look great for driving lights/parking lights.

Used these 1157 LED's for brake lights (shaved off one of the tabs):

Thanks to 7t2vette for posting. Time to put up my multi dotted led tail lamps up for sale!

Steve

These look awesome. It makes me want to buy another C3 that I can modify without crying. My car is so stock and original, I don't want to change a thing.

I'm planting the seed in my wife's mind that a restomod with A/C would be very nice to have.

As always, very well executed.
For the tail lights, are those the white LEDs? I used red halos and did wondered if the white was brighter or not.

OK, just read post 100.
(wish I stumbled on this thread about a month ago, could have saved a few $$$ in stuff that didn't work before finding the halo rings.)

I finally got thru all these posts. I have ordered the materials to do the head and tail lights.

7T2, great job on the explanation, and pics. Everybody else that contributed (I can't remember all of you right this second) thank you very much too.

Getting a little older sucks for the night vision. And, an older car just doesn't have the brighter lights of todays cars. Until now that it.....

Thank to all that made this a great thread!!!

Hi Henry, I found some alternate halos for the headlights; 125mm will work just as well as the 126mm ones I used:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/400478912696

http://www.ebay.com/itm/301499824973

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

I've started this response twice already. Third time is the charm. I hope my laptop doesn't crash this time....

Bruce, thank you very much. I'm not one to ask others to do my work for me, but I don't know all the ins and outs of this project.....yet.

I have a pair of halos for the rear ordered. I may check and see if they will work inside the reverse lights, to add to the brake lights. I'll have to see how they work, and if they shine white light to the rear through the clear part of the lens.

Thanks again for the research, and I'll post some pics in a few weeks when I'm done, or all the parts get delivered and installed!!!
