Dexron 2 or Dexron 3 in 1976 Corvette?
I am changing ATF in my 1976 Corvette. The operators manual says Dexron II and that I would need 11 us qts or 9.25 imp measure qts.
My question is can I use Dexron III?
How much ATF can i expect to use as i am pulling the ATf pan and filter and not sure how much will remain in the system when i drain it
Thanks in advance

Try to find dex 3 if possible. Dex 6 will work but it is a lot thinner and if you have any current transmission leaks they may leak more with dex 6

I'm using Dex 6 in my '82 and 04 blazer. The big difference is synthetic, supposedly shifts more positively, and runs cooler.
My '82 had 50+K miles when I changed over, no problem 58K on it now, 38K on the blazer fluid. The stuff doesn't change color. I did have the fluid analyzed for wear every 5K miles for 3 or 4 times on the blazer, don't do it now, did not indicate any wear.

You can use all the fluids except possibly the synthetics...Performance transmissions shift best with Tye 'F, which is actually Ford fluid and make for hard positive shifts...same stuff for a power steering unit.......just a different color
