Gentlemen,
I just received an upper and lower radiator hose from Ecklers. The lower hose does not have a spring in it. I can feel a spring in the one thats on it now. Do I need the spring in there? (stock 350 engine) Thanks!
Yeah, I am going to use it if its not all rusted. Hopefully its stainless steel and it good shape. I am going over to NAPA tomorrow. Maybe they sell them separately. Thanks..
i posted about this a few times as gates claims the spring is not needed.i would kind of agree with the guy's on trying to reuse the old spring if in good condition.i would think it might help as the hose ages and the walls weaken.
Hose I bought years ago didn't come with one and the old one was just that, old and broke during removal. Parts stores didn't sell the spring as a stand alone item so I bought a universal flex hose and removed the spring ditched the hose and solved the problem the expensive way but no collapsed hose either.
Got the old hose off this morning. It was a gates. The spring inside was perfect. I had to cut the old hose up to get it out and never thought I would be able to get it inside the new one. Just spun it clockwise and the spring just threaded its way right up into the new hose. Probably in hindsite thinking I could have rotated the spring out of the old hose counterclockwise.
