Default My heart sank when I got back to the garage

It was a beautiful Winters day in sunny Queensland , and Id just been out for the usual find any out reason to go for a "blat" in the vette.

Heck , who needs a reason.

Anyway , on returning I put it back into bed, put the bed covers back over it , and went to open the passengers door to get my phone out , Only to do the big double take on the door lock ,,,

The bloody door lock bezel was gone. ..... sh*t.... Bugger....
Now , as you're all aware , a 68 door bezel is a 1 year part.

All I could think was my poor defenseless bezel laying helplessly on a road within the 5 k radius Id been hooning in, waiting to be squashed to a pulp.

Well I leaped into the daily hack, and out the driveway like I was on a 000 call, (911 for the U.S), to retrace the hoon tracks.

Bottom line is , I didn't find it, its gone,

Boy didn't that wreck my day in a hurry.

Anyway, Ecklers and everyone else has no stock, and I'm between a rock and a hard place,
So if any 68 buffs out there have a spare they would be willing to part with, I would be eternally grateful.

I'm sure you feel my pain. Marty.

The sorry Site.

Go out and look again the next day.

I lost my wheel hub and couldn't find it...went out looking the next day and there it was sitting on the curb.

Granted that's a much larger piece but still.

Sorry for your loss . Not funny in a ha ha sort of way but funny that you took a car out to try and find this tiny piece.

Anyway, there is a gentleman on the for sale page of the forum that I'll bet has this part for you.

Check here.

Good luck my friend.

Hey Punisher, In actual fact I've walked most of it since, with my wife on morning walks, as I didn't go far that day.

Still no joy, mind you , Id be way more Pi$$ed if it was a wheel cap like your situation.

I can not beieve you stopped looking for that. Would you stop looking for your child? Shame on you, get back out there and look until you can not look anymore. Did you put up missing/please help flyers? At least ask the local yokal if anyone has found the missing bezel. Do not rest until it is found!

Don't worry Alswagg, I nearly lost him as well out looking for it,
(10 year old son that is), sent him and his mates out looking for it on their skateboards, they didn't come back till dark.
Even put a bounty on it. $$$

I haven't shaved for a week,
I got a DCM (Don't Come Monday) from work.
I nearly didn't get up this morning.
I've been having my first beer at 9.00am

And the wife recons I'm but a shell of a man,
I'm Broken Alswagg, Broken....!!

Or, Just so I can use this Smilie, " I'm a Wreck"

That bezel will be difficult to replace. Go back over your route and see if you can find it.

I lost a gold cross my mother had given me just before she died. I lost it at work and went crazy looking for it. I felt terrible for weeks. About 6 months after I lost it I was walking around the job and it was right there up against a wall hidden away a little but right there. Keep looking.

I lost my wedding band (thought it slipped off and fell in the trash) and didn't want to bum my wife out so I just went to the jewelry store and bought anther one. 6 months later my wife was going through some boxes in the closet and heard a rattle.... and pulled out my wedding band. She was very confused! I was very happy!

Good luck finding that wedding-band shaped bezel. I will keep an eye on mine at carshows, now that I know how hard they are to replace.

ya know, a little chrome paint and nobody (but you) will notice the difference.

Exactly. Look in the cover/bedding itself. Maybe when taking it off, the bezel came with it and landed in the corner of garage, or still in the cover itself.

Look in the engine bay and make sure the hidden black hole did not suck it up?

When was the last trip you took? I"m wondering if it fell off on that trip and you just didn't notice it till this most recent one?

Hi M,
When I read your thread's title I thought " oh, no"!!!!
This is a LITTLE problem. In fact ANY problem with a Corvette that doesn't include the words 'telephone pole' or 'fire' is a LITTLE problem!!!
I hope you find it, or another, quite easily.
Regards,
Alan

If I remember correctly, the 68 door lock bezel is the same one that was used on the trunk lock on 58-62 vettes. Lou.

That's a good point, Its got me thinking , the only reason I was fairly certain it was there before hand, was because I had only just waxed the whole car , and I'm convinced I would have noticed it missing then.

That's very true Alan, I need to take check of the fact that I still have the whole car, a lot more than a lot of guys have ended up with.
I just hate losing some originality off what is such a lovely untouched car. Thanks Mate.

That's interesting, I don't suppose it makes it any easier to find, Truck locks are probably harder to find, I would say. But thanks for the suggestion.
Ecklers were remaking them, and have now stopped, One would think, if you made them, and then sold out that there was a market for the item. Go Figure..????
