Where would the hinge spring fall to? Need advice.

Where would the hinge spring fall to? Need advice.
While re installing my gas door bezel, (1975) I dropped the door hinge spring,
and I just cannot find where it landed. I know it's not in the tank. I am spinning my wheels 
trying to get to it. How do I get to it? Thanks for your help.

it's probably on top of the tank or it slid down on top the rear frame rail.

Thanks Lanny- Yeah, I'm spending the morning on my back under the car and I can't see it. My hands are too big to get far in enough from where it fell at the gas door location, but my wife tried and couldn't feel anything. I wasn't even able to see her hands in there as I was looking from underneath the car. According to the AIM it could have landed where you suggested but still, I just cannot see it.

I couldn't see it because it was at the bottom of the gas tank cover.
