Does anyone have experience with best spots to attach the straps front and rear on an open trailer? If anyone has pictures that would be great. Thanks
To the trailer? To the car? Or both? Is it your trailer, or borrowed? Does it have stake pockets? Do the straps have loops on the ends, or hooks? What type & year car?
I put "D" rings in the floor of my trailer just fore & aft of the front wheel location. This way, I can haul ANY car, and use the tire straps in front. Just for a little "extra", I have a hand cranked winch, and I secure the cable hook to the frame, forward of the control arms. Then I use an axle strap in the back that goes to a center mounted stake pocket with a ratchet.
Due to the design of the rear the best I've found is to use "t" hooks.
There is a slot for them in the rear xmember at the kickups.
Slots for them also at the front near the sway bar.
That's how GM shipped them.
You do not use the t hooks in the frame slots. Use axle straps around the ft control arms and around the rear shock mounts. The t hooks can and do often damage the holes in the frame. If you have basket straps all four tires is the best way.
Car is 72 corvette. Trailer is borrowed and has D rings in the floor front and aft. I have 6 sets of straps, 2 have hooks, and I have 4 axle straps. I am thinking about going to local trailer shop and getting at least 2 tire straps for front

Used them for over 35 years including cross country with no damage.
You have to use common sense when tightening.
I also don't like to have the car bouncing around on it's suspension with just the suspension tied down.
As I said, that's the way they were shipped from the factory, also without damage.
But whatever works for you.
UHaul has a great set of straps on their open trailers.
They are basically nylon webbing that you lay out toward the rear of the trailer, pull the car on and wrap right over the tire and ratchet it down.
Absolutely loved towing my 73 with the UHaul open trailer, straps worked awesome!

I used a uhaul trailer (not dolly) when I picked up my 75 a few months ago. it is a nice system but in a long trailer it would not allow much fwd backwards adjustment to balance the load. However for the Uhaul trailer it worked well.
I have a 20 foot tandem trailer it would not work well with. At the time it was being used so I had to go with uhaul.
I use axle straps around control arms or through the wheels on my 20 footer.
