I know there are reproduction decals available but I am specifically specifically referring to the blue decal that goes on the drivers door that has the vin and month/year on it. Are there companies that will reproduce these if you send them the info?
That is the federal certification decal. They can be found on that auction site, either blank so you can fill them out, or some vendors will fill them out with your info. They come with the clear outer cover as well.
Hi,
As is often the case a reproduction part isn't always the complete answer.
I believe part of the problem with the reproduction Certification Labels is matching the appearance of the imprinted information on the label. I think people say an old IBM Selectronic with the right font 'ball' is close.
I believe the car's Protect-O-Plate was used to imprint the label. Much like was done with credit cards many, many years ago.
Since the p-o-p was used, there was often an additional imprint, (sometimes faint or partial), of the car's engine assembly date and broadcast code, (which appears on the p-o-p too), in the lower left hand corner of the label. It's even harder to duplicate that one because of where it is on the label.
"Oh the tangled web......"
Cars with their original parts are valuable for a hundreds of tiny details.
Regards,
Alan
That's the venders names I need one for my 75 vert ?? Can anyone give me some names it would be great. Thanks
Gaddied,
Double check which label you need. Starting sometime in June of '75, they switched to the white label. I have seen blue labels as late as serial number 434291, and the white label as early as 434414.
