Corvette C3 Wide body 1971 - GTO - 920 hp - Street Machine

920 HP on 93 octane. I'm not even sure what to do with all that HP let alone try to squeeze any more out of it. I know I could burn up some tires while trying to keep it straight! Interested in seeing how it ends up looking when you're all done.

Years ago, I helped work on a few race cars. When many were jumping from the previously allowed 10 inch wide wheels with 12 inch wide tires to 12 inch wide wheels with 14 inch wide tires, we had to stretch the flares to cover. Most flares don't stretch well because of the angle. If you cut and move straight out, you have a sharp angle inside near the top and then the lower edge drops off too much.
If you lower the whole cut piece to align the slope, then the opening gets so low, you lose clearance.
We ended up instead of cutting a single line and moving the outer piece out, cutting two lines, one near the top and one near the outer edge. then when you moved the outer piece out, you have about 4-5 inches to fill instead of 2, but the angles were better and the clearance remained.
Truthfully, when I read wide body in the title, I expected either a Daytona/Can am style body and flares or a car someone cut down the middle and stretched.
Still, it is a good looking car, and I'm sure everyone involved is goign to enjoy it.
I guess the screws probably seal better and keep the dirt and water out better for the long term lack of maintenance in there, which wasn't a problem on a race car since you maybe in there after every weekend.

I didn't even notice, but looking back after reading this, it makes me wonder why you didn't go with a hinge and Dzus fastener setup like the red car. There are some other concepts brewing right now with the front and rear of the car. We didnt quite finish the wiring before the owner had to leave the country. We will be back on it in another 30 days and I will post some other photos. He enjoys coming to the shop and being a part of the build and quite frankly we are glad to have his direction.
Thank you.
The screws in the headlights are not the final fastener. they will probably be socket head or something other than phillips head.

Congratulations Guys.
You're thinking outside the square, have the passion and the ***** to do something different, and building your dream.
It doesn't get any better than that.

As usual your build quality and attention to detail is 2nd to none. Another great work of art. I have to say this one is a bit wilder than what I have come to expect from you. Still nothing short of outstanding. Thanks for sharing the finished product.

Always interesting to watch people that know what they are doing, and have the skill to do it.
Oh, and the shop. How do these people keep such a clean shop?
