Default Corvette C3 Wide body 1971 - GTO - 920 hp - Street Machine

I thought you guys might like this. Here is a project I am working on. Most of engineering has been done.....street shop, Viper Stage 2 rear end, 598 Cu in Scott Shafiroff 920 Hp Big Block, A/C, and engineered out the kazoo.

It will be getting big fenders, 1980 nose, 69 side vents, and plenty of additional engineering on the body.

The main reason I am sharing these pictures and this project is to network with fellow Corvette enthusiasts. I know Vanacor is out of business but does anyone know if there are any of their hoods out there? We are mocking up an L88 hood but we need 4 inches taller because of the high intake, carb, and air cleaner. We are making one but curious of anyone has any leads on this hood.

Mocking up a hood with styrofoam..

Sounds like a lot of expensive stuff. What's the intended use of the vehicle?

First and foremost this car is being built because of a passion for designing and building...... secondly it is being built for pleasure...... Other than the A/C which by the way has all polished stainless steel fittings, this car is set up for some serious driving but it will be the next owner of the car who will race it. The owner of the car is an engineer and has owned a diversity of hotrods, bikes, you name it. This project already has over 3 years of design and build.

We hope to have it in primer and ready for a Corvette show I am hosting at my property in Sarasota on November 9.

WoW. That is going to be an awesome machine. I think we need more details and pictures of the build! How about a video of it starting up and to hear the exhaust rumble out of that beast.

Wish I was closer to offer a hand and to learn a few things from you guys. You have the tools and knowledge on how to put together a great Corvette together.

Have fun!

Ton of work, ton of money, in this one. Should be a ton of fun to drive.
Thanks for the pictures. Keep 'em coming. Please.

this hood and a drop base air cleaner might work, I own the mold and have a fiberglass guy if you or anyone is interested in a skin, you would have to panel bond it to a factory inner structure and yes it`s the same hood thats on my vintage racer, an L-88 hood wouldn`t clear.

That would be awesome.....however, there is no wiring in the car yet It is coming though after the bodywork. This motor should rock!

Thanks but we are just professional amateurs. I hope to share a little and learn a little from the project.

It is understood the car would ruffle the feathers of some Corvette enthusiasts. However, it is going to be a out of sight project.

it really was a numbers matching car but at last count this car will sport at least 4 years of parts....69, 71, 80, 82. I guess it is kind of a mutt!!

I wish I would have posted earlier. I will show you what we did today and maybe you can comment.

Yes, these are side mount headers with a pretty elaborate attachment system. The pipes.....not shown have been shortened and have a carbon fiber heat shield.....sorry no pictures of this right now.

We decided to build our own hood. How about some pink foam insulation from Home Depot, a cheese grater, aluminum tape, metal rod for the center line, one L88 hood, one L88 hood scoop. Guess we will use some suran wrap and some fiberglass and see what happens.

The 4 inch rise make the hood look like a pro-street hood so we cut up another hood scoop to mount up higher on the rise so it would not look so tall.

Heck I dont know, we are just throwing darts right now to make it work

Or maybe a designer Corvette. People pay a lot of money for designer dogs.

In any event thanks for keeping the pictures and updates coming.

Well, I guess its not one of the smaller hoods you have seen. We will wax it up and throw some glass on it and see how it looks. Unfortunately with the height of the carburetor there is not much choice. Looks pretty good for foam and duct tape

When I installed my MSD box I went crazy trying to find a spot for it. I mounted it on the firewall. I like where you are putting your. Can it be reached once the nose is on it. It could crap out on you.

thank you!!

Here is a photo of the hood scoop as it was pulled off the factory L88 hood. It doesnt look so big now and I really think it will fit it with the car.

Here is a little work on the rear flairs.
