I just purchased a 78 Pace Car project and I'm in the process of removing the interior but I can't get the passenger door to open. This is my first project and I'm really a novice mechanic so I may be missing something simple here. The exterior handle or the key does not work. The interior handle does not work either. I thought if I could take the door panel off I could see if the linkage was damaged or rusted in place but I can't get the panel off without the door being open so I'm lost. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Had the same problem, but mine was the drivers door. Use the search function and enter "can't unlock drivers door" and search titles only. I can't figure out how to put a link to the thread in this response, but you should be able to find it. Good Luck.
are you sure the key doesn't work? first day I had my car I parked somewhere, locked the doors, and when I went to leave, I put the key in and it turned left and right with nothing happening. I found I had to turn it harder to the right, to the point it felt like something was going to break to get it to unlock. it's still like this today, I haven't gone into the door to fix it yet
Just a wild guess but are you sure you are using the "round" key? Back then you had separate ignition and door lock keys. I hate to tell you how I had to relearn this.........
Does it have power locks? My friends 78 has power locks.Looks like the power window switch on the e brake console but mounted on the door.
Yes, it has power locks but there is no battery installed.

Great tip but I couldn't wait. Earlier in the day, before your post, I just cut a hole into the door panel with a carpet knife and ripped it off. Since I planned on replacing it anyway it wasn't that big of a deal. The linkage was rusted together and after a squirt of PB blaster it loosened up and works pretty good now.
