Default Help! Front bumper removal

Hi, I have my 1979 l-82 with original front pumper that I want to have repainted before the winter. I tried removing it yesterday, I know that there are 14 fasteners to remove from the top portion of the bumper - my question how do you reach the ones that at the extrem left and right sides and the ones that are at the very center? What do I need to remove to reach these fasteners?

Thank you pictures would be helpful you there are any

Maurice

Many of the nuts are easier to remove with the headlights up.
Remove the headlight bezels. Then you can reach thru the headlight
opening using a 1/4" ratchet. The nuts in the center and the ones on
the far left and right re removed from under the car. They are removed
by feeling for them as you cannot see them.

I have had good success using SEM products problem plastic repair
product for this type of damage. Hear is a link for the product:

http://www.autobodytoolmart.com/sem-...2-p-16700.aspx

It should also be available from many local auto paint supply stores.

If you look at other urethane bumper corvettes, that gap is not all
that unusual. I don't see an easy way to eliminate it. You might
try posting in the body and paint section. A member named DUB
often posts there and he is very knowledgeable.

If you are painting the car, then using some fiberglass mat and smc resin
could be used on the body of the car to eliminate the gap. I think this
would be a more lasting repair then trying to build up the edges of the
bumper with a bumper repair product like I showed you.

My 78 has that same gap on both sides. I am replacing the urethane with truflex.

I went to fiberglass pumpers on mine, yes, the front needed some extra work by the body man, but we were painting car anyway. The rear flexes enough to fit great(by my standards).

That's part of the actual crash bumper. Leave it off the car and you have nothing protecting the front except the bumper cover.

...what did you guys do?...
I reinstalled all my crash bumper hardware. It's still there and doing it's job, although I have no desire to learn how well it does its job.

Mine has that same gap. It is like the bumper is to short on each side. I am thinking about going to the TruFlex bumpers.

I have both bumper covers front and rear removed. What a pain had to use a sawzall to cut the rusty bolts on both. Got the tru flex to replace.
