As somebody pointed out in another recent thread - who are we to judge? If people don't have garages, interest, respect, class, intelligence, fiscal insight - are willing to let very special cars go all to hell in a basket - in fields, ditches, yards, forests, bug-ridden lawns and cattle ranges, who are we to say they're insane and shortsighted?

Not me.

Actually......you wouldn't be judging.....You'd just be making a detailed/accurate/caring observation.

Now .....if you said the owners are going to Hell in a handbasket, along with the Vettes, then you'd be judging---accurately.....but still judging

The number of SWCs is amazing. Agree about wanting the early early one, but I'd take just about any of them. If they are too far gone to go on the road, I'd rather have them rust at my house so I can dream about what they were like (and occasionally wax what is left).

Wow maverickmk. You posted quite a collection of unloved Corvettes there and I agree, it is sad to see them sitting in the elements, wasting away.

Too bad many of the property owners won't let anyone interested, buy and restore those cars back to running condition. If I had more resources, I'd build racers out of any that had the least paperwork or option history.

It hurts my eyes to see them neglected like that. Thanks for sharing.

My kids had a baby sitter who had no money to blow, but made sure that she bought each of the new Disney movies when they came out because it was the "last time this century they would be offered". Wonder how much those decayed VHS tapes are worth now? The next one took money she did not have and "invested" in beanie babies thinking they would be worth a fortune later on.
I wonder how many of the owners of those cars are holding on to them for the same delusional reasons. I also wonder why we did not screen our baby sitters better.

That's the biggest part that bothers me. If you're just going to let it rot out in the open like that, let someone that wants to try and save it instead of letting it fade away. I hate the "I'm gonna' fix it up someday"

to me , something worse than letting one sit and rot in a field , is shutting nice drivable ones away in a garage never to see the road because "its a show car" "its too valuable" "its too whatever" to drive.

Multiple visits to the 70 year old owner of this 54, always result in the same answer..."I don't want to sell it, 'cause I'm gonna restore it someday".

A 76 in the local bone yard on the pile with a complete wide body kit on her! Some may say a fitting end but no way for a Corvette to die.

Actually, the owner claims that most of the parts for the car, are stored in his basement. The engine is still in the car, and complete right down to the 2 round late 54 style air cleaners, and the correct 54 ignition shielding!

The story I got was that he started disassembling the car in his driveway, in the late 70's. The plan was to restore it, but the township started giving him a lot of grief about having the car all apart in his yard, so he rolled it out back, and it's sat there ever since.

And them '63 splits, I helped a friend rebuild his engine TWICE in one, mid/late 60's.....but Eddie got in crap with his girl friend, and kill himself....

his folks put the car on the street in front of the house and demanded full retail price for it.....got it too, eventually....
