Default L-88 hood or high rise for 1979 corvette? CA

I took off my intake to replace the gasket and also was given a pretty new 7101 Perf RPM Edelbrock intake which does not fit under my hood. I was going to put the original one back but now i don't want to because that thing is pretty damn heavy! The intake i have now is the Gm 346249. I really want to get a bigger hood and would love a L88 style hood. Does anyone know where I can get one in CA? does the 1968-1972 L88 fit my 79? Are there any shops in SoCal that sell any c3 high-rise hoods?
Any thing I can do other than driving without a hood for a while or put a bunch of washer to leave the hood higher lol

Would cutting it be a bad idea? Do the original hoods even have any value.

They make an L88 hood for your 79. A lot of the Corvette suppliers carry them and will ship them to any where in the U.S.

I did notice ecklers offered a l88 hood for my 79 at about $650 , which is worth it to me but the shipping at ecklers was about $250-300. Thats a little too much.

in general, even from private sale shipping will be in that range and to be honest, it likely around the same money to send two hoods in the same crate as it goes by a weight / height / width break point....the crate can be say up to 100 lbs, so wide, so tall etc...I recently shipped two hoods to different parts of the country, one to CA from Boston for 265 and another to TX for about the same, but wouldn't have been any cheaper really to go to NY

check with J&D corvettes in California, they might have one, or know someone that has one. They are a corvette salvage yard.

Thanks for your opinion. I have been considering cutting it but am not sure what precessions to take when cutting fiberglass and also wasn't sure if the original hood had any value. Im thinking ill just cut out a hole for the filter for now

The 79 was the top production for c3's so I say mod the heck out of the car to suit you and your tastes make the car "yours"

Don't pay some big silly shipping fees for a hood, look on your craigslists, c3 vette hoods are all over the place,

Or hack a hole in yours get a good fiberglass scoop and make it one with your hood, we have both L-88 and cowl but in fl too far away to help,
a plus to glassing a scoop on your hood is your hood fits...well, should.

No, the 68-72 short hoods will not fit your car, and the latches were changed during the years too....

Before you go cutting up your hood for the aftermarket intake manifold, and carb, check on how to get this through the bi annual smog tests in California. Unless your not putting the car on the road. It may save you some aggravation later in the year or next year.

Do you want the new hood just for looks or clearance issues? If for clearance, I don't know why it wont fit. Just how tall is this intake?

Its about 2 inches too tall. The new hood i want for both looks and clearance. The clearance just gave me an excuse to search for one and knock down 2 birds with one stone. Im thinking of just buying that triangle shaped Pro-Flo edelbrock filter and cutting a triangle in my hood for it, since the circle filter might look funky.

Gotcha.

Was going to say if it was just for function, an ez way to get your stock hood closed without cutting it would be a choke-less Holley carb and a drop base air cleaner.

Thats a good idea. I just saw one after you mention it, that dropped 1.75". But you say it would have to be choke-less?

Yes, that would give you more room on top.

Just a thought compared to another hood and paint work. Good luck.
