Hi mds,
Believe it or not I think I'd take the convertible.....as long as it's a 4-speed.
Regards,
Alan

Alan,
really cool old skool pic thanks.
I'll take the yellow one.
Is the yellow 1 a big block car or the LT-1?
Yes when I worked at GM, the wheel covers and trim rigs were plastic wrapped in the trunk. New car prep did the work of installing.
If I could have worked for GM a decade earlier, I would have loved to special order a cool car.
Alan, you ordered yours new right?

Does it appear that there is plastic covering the seats? How about the large tag hanging from the mirrors? Lot numbers? Kind of odd, the cars don't appear to have been prep'd at all?

Hi WB,
I see the plastic covers on the seats too. They even had a part number... 3965116!
I remember tags like that hanging on mirrors back then... I think they were part of 'inventory control'?
Also notice the exterior mirrors are all in the 'up' position.
I wish we could see more of the convertible... I'd like to compare the front ride height of the bb-sb cars.
I remember many cars sitting on lots un-prepped. I think prepping a car actually was a bit of work back then compared to now. I'd really love to know what percentage of cars went to the paint shop (at the dealer) as part of it prep? (I think a LOT did).
Regards,
Alan

Hi Marshal,
I believe the yellow car is a bb since I really can't see even a hint of a hood stripe. I think it would have been black (?) on a yellow car?
I didn't order my car... the dealer had ordered it for stock. I've often wondered WHAT I would have ordered if I HAD ordered? The car as it was was about a year's salary, so I don't know how much further I would have gone on options. If it had still been 70 I guess I would have gone for a 350/350. That's always been my favorite sb.

Alan

I do remember hearing the complaints about horrible finishes and dealers repainting/ spotting on a regular bases.....

So, if these plastic seat covers have a part number and were on the seats as delivered to the dealer, why is there no mention in the Judging manuals? Or for that matter a small deduction for not having the item to judge?

Given that the pic was taken in Boston in February, I'm betting the liquid on the ground is ice/water and the granular stuff is salt. They used to get snow back then before Al Gore invented global warming.

My friend worked at Vickers Chevrolet in my small hometown from about '68 to '73, and when a 'vette came in we would ooh and aww over it even then. To a kid, the IRS and engine set-back was a thing of wonder.
There would never be that many Corvettes on the lot at one time, that's for sure. IIRC they were mostly SB's with 4speeds and not many high optioned cars.

Hi Alan,
That is a nice window invoice, mine is in similar shape. The base price on my coupe is $ 5533.00. It was sold new at Holsapple Chevrolet-Buick Co in Salem, I'll, not far from the plant, so only a $22.00 destination charge. My option totals came to $1906.80.
On the Ontario Orange coupe, the option list would add another $158.00 for custom interior and $79.00 for power windows.

I'd guess $22 was about as low as the shipping got?

I bought it without a second thought....now, the new ones are out of my reach.

The white coupe' s trim tag is Apr 20 and was purchased on Apr 26th. If you look at a Illinois map, Salem is straight due east from Saint Louis in the middle of the state (Rt 57). I noticed that the pre-printed information on our invoices are slightly different also. Very interesting. The original purchaser also did NOT spring for white lettered tires! I did order and purchase a 2002 coupe, window invoice on that was $50,805.00, won't be doing that again.
