Fiber Optic Question
I purchased new wire harnesses for front, rear and main and the front and rear included fiber optics for my '68. My question is what does the fiber optic plug into at the light housings? I have the little deal that collects the light at the console but I assume there is a grommet or seal and some kind of a lens at the light. Does anyone have a good photo of what this looks like at the light source? Are there lenses and if so are they all the same? I have asked this question to a couple of the Corvette parts houses and have been told that they would have to have an expert call me back as they are not aware of lenses or grommets that work with fiber optics. So far I have not heard back. (Usually it isn't that difficult to purchase something when you are actively trying to.)

I don't have a pic for you but each light housing has a hole that the fiber optic rubber grommet plugs into. The holes are about 1/2 inch across and hold the end of the fiber optic in the grommet so it points at the bulb and you have light!

Hi 68BB,
The fiber optic cable is in the center of the headlight connector.
It makes it's connection to the glass 'nipple' on the back of the headlight bulb.
I removed the tiny rubber 'sleeve' that's on each 'nipple' connection so you could see the glass part of the bulb.
This is typical for the four headlights.
Regards,
Alan

Geeeze Alan, is there anything you don't have a highly detailed photo of?
They from a collection of existing photos or do you take a photo as needed and post them?

So it looks like there is some kind of a nipple or glass piece that the cable goes into on the head lights. On the other lights does the cable just insert into that grommet and pick up the light or is there another piece inside similar to the nipple on the head lights? Thanks for the great shots.

Tail lights and turn signals have plastic lenses which the fiber optics cables plug into. These have rubber boots. You can see them when you take a look. AIMs show them.

Hi 68,
Here's the optic set up for the 70-71 parking light. It's typical for the lights other than the headlights.
Regards,
Alan
Cable with ferrule crimped on it's end and sealing boot.
Lens.
Ferrule inserted into lens.
Boot slid down over ferrule/lens connection.
Hole in parking light housing.
Grommet in hole
Lens inserted in grommet and boot seated on grommet.

Hi,
If you take it apart far enough you get to see everything….even some things you wish you haven't seen because the more you see the more there is to do.

Alan

Hi
The headlight fiberoptics only works on the sealed beam bulbs, doesn' it ?
If you use the H1, H4 bulbs in the european style lenses, it needs modifications to get the fiber optic working again.
