Default Will a 72 center gauge panel / center shiter console work with 70 dash pads?

I have a 72 corvette, however I came across a good deal on a 70 corvette interior and purchased it. Since I'm not doing NCRS I am not worried about it being perfect.

Can I use a 72 center gauge cluster/bezel and 72 center shift console with a 70 map pocket and 70 driver side lower dash pad?

Or Can I use a 72 center shift console with a 70 lower dash pad set up/center gauge cluster/bezel? (I don't have fiberoptics, and don't believe they have a 70 center shift console without one)

Thanks for you letting me pick you brains.

The cluster bezel is essentially generic. You will need to compare dash pad ends with the console of your choice to ensure the two will mate. There are variations of how the pads and console fit against each other; some are slotted while others are not.

People stick 80-82 dashes in the pre 77 cars so...I thought "basically" 68/69-77 dash "stuff" would while not being ncrs correct would swap around, but a quick look at Ecklers shows seveal different parts for the various years...hum....I wonder did they change little styling things on parts or what Mike is saying the way they mount up, but the fact remains many c3's have dashes of the wrong for that car year in whole or part....
Steering collums are different and late have to be modded to fit early and are like 2" shorter.

Yes they will interchange but as you stated you will loose your fiber-optics that your 70 has. The Console and shiftier plate on a 72 do not have the fiber-optics. The center gauge bezel on a 72 does not have the seat belt button either. The gauges on a 72 have white letters compared to light green of a 68 -71.

Thanks - just worried parts wouldn't fit together. I don't see why they wouldn't though....

Check this area. Front corners of the dash pads and the front of the console have to match.

The areas where you will encounter fit problems is where the 1970 left and right dash pads will meet up against the 1972 center console's left and right front section.
I see Easy Mike beat me to posting the problem area.

Hi,
I believe the change in the method the right and left dash pads meet the console occurred for the 70 model year.
Visually the 70+ dash pads and the shifter console have a double row of stitching that the 68-69 dash pads and shifter consoles didn't have.
The 70+ shifter consoles have a tiny 'tab' that slips into a slot on the dash pad which helps the alignment of the 3 parts. This alignment had been a problem in 68-69.
Regards,
Alan

A TINY tab.

Thanks, everyone. I guess I'll have to decide to live with the 70 center shifter console, which will have on functioning fiber optic lights... or change back to a 72 front dash
