Default Got rear ended :-/

Hey guys, it's been a while. Just put the final touches on the SA and pulled her out of the garage for a car parade Friday morning and got rear ended. I was at a complete stop and the douche bag behind me was traveling 40mph in his Volvo while texting and drilled me. He hit me before he even saw me. Luckily no one was seriously injured. I got some pretty bad whiplash and a concussion but otherwise unscathed. The more unfortunate part is I never had the car appraised after having invested over $30,000 and ten years labor in the car. Do I take the check and repair the car out bank it and sell the car as is? The rear bumper ripped the fiberglass off the *** end of the car and there are 4-6 inch stress cracks in both quarters. I would post pics but I'm using my phone and I don't see a pic option. All my pics are on my phone. And I just saw someone post yesterday looking to buy a nice SA. FML

i hate the world. :-/

I'm sorry to hear what happened and am glad to hear you're okay (aside from the whiplash and concussion). Cars are replaceable, people aren't.

Having said that, I would have ripped that guy a new a**hole about paying attention to the road, respect, and the significance of a classic car.

Just don't think about the "what if's" or "should have's" you'll go crazy.

I am a vote for repairing the car. I'm sure repairing will take less time than the 10 years you already have in her.

Yeah it sucks. I was actually getting ready to sell the car. I have my father's 1970.5 Z28 I want to build and that's why I'm debating what to do now. Let me see if I can post pictures. I just uploaded them from my phone to my photobucket. The car was pristine. New interior, suspension, body, steering, glass, trim, weather stripping and so on. I built a stout 350 and put some side pipes on it with aTCI street strip TH350 just to spice it up a little.

If I had the money, I would buy it off of you as is.

How can they say that cars from back then aren't as safe? That Volvo is destroyed and the Vette doesn't look bad at all.

I want an SA, and have wanted one for a while. Almost bought one, but got screwed on the deal.

Haha I didn't make it to the parade. That's where I was heading lol and yeah I'm a wrecker driver and Volvos are typically tough as nails and everyone says Vettes can't take a hit. The proof is in the pudding my friends

How would you go about repairing the fiber glass damage? You would have to cut a foot all the way around the back and re- mild it by hand. They do sell quarters but not decks.

I'll sell you mine. Completely rebuilt with brand new minor rear end damage but really though you need to see what I put under the hood. And I would consider selling it as is if the insurance does me a solid and it's worth it.

I'm not a body guy, and haven't done a full frame off, but wouldn't it be possible to cut the needed rear panel off of a parts car. Cut it below the rear window or below the gas door and glass it together?

Like I said, I would jump at it if I had the money. But alas, stay-at-home dads don't make much.....of anything.

I'm sure you could. It's just a matter of finding the donor
