I f someone buys the hood I have the special rain cover for the opening. This allows you to drive in the rain.

A car that bears that hood should NEVER see a drop of rain!

^^^ lol.

So here's a question ... Might be the right place to get some candid thoughts on the matter...

Back in my teenage years, my first hot rod was a 1980 Firebird... Went through multiple junk yard and auction car engines because it's all I could afford at the time... Learned a LOT of my wrenching and tuning skills back then... Anyways... I always loved the look of the Trans Am shaker hoods... Mine didn't have it, but I always liked it...

I had an idea of taking a L88 cowl hood and turning it into a shaker hood... At the time, I was thinking of using 1970 Formula firebird hood scoops, molding them into the corvette cowl, and making the corvette cowl into a large shaker somehow... Those dreams/ideas were never realized...

Now I no longer have my Firebird, and now I have a 81 Vette... I still love the look of the corvette cowl, and may put it on mine someday... Question is... If I did something custom and figured out a way to make it cleanly look like a shaker... What kind of looks/thoughts would I get overall? Has anyone ever seen something like this done? I'm a ways off from contemplating or trying this idea out... It's just been on my mind for 16+ years... Lol

Damm, i like it ! !

I will probably mod most anything, but the hood with the egg crate is different.

Good find.

That looks good but looks too much like an add on. If you got rid of the moulding surrounding the hood opening and gave the cutout some finessing then it would in my opinion look more finished and factory installed. I like it though.
I sort of recognize the scoop. Where is it from?

The ol trans am shakers had the scoop facing the other way... It's similar to what I have in mind , but I want to make the whole large bump of the L-88 cowl become the shaker... My concern since thinking about it more recently will be how to support the back of the hood... Or would I end up with a gigantic U shaped hood... Or would I leave 4-6" across the rear and reinforce it..?

Does your weep hole get clogged? Did you have to change out to softer motor mounts to get a proper shake from the hood ? What you've done looks very clean and well thought out! How far would you say the hood scoop 'deflects'?

Yeah. Ya step on it and you watch it open up. A buddy had one, and we'd always get a charge out of it.

Is that a drain hose coming out on the back? Some serious engineering going on there.

Looks like the drain hose is coming out the 'front' and follows the upper radiator hose... I like it... Looks very clean.

I think they were talking about Bubba's hood Fireball.
I do agree with you on the drain hose on the Vette. Clean.

Here ya go Fireball. Im thinking this will work. It has the same lines and top top raised area just like the 79 and down Corvette hood, Although the Vette's is less pronounced. With some reengineering I bet it would look really cool.
