I'll be interested in what others have to say. Fundamentally, X'ing out the VIN probably isn't "proof" of anything. It may, however, be an indicator of some kind of factory test. Who else would bother to X out a VIN?

They all seem to have a mysterious/special link to the engineers.

Perhaps the stamps are x'd out so the actual engine assembly information and date can't be seen?!?

Anybody remember the 'Car&Driver', Penske Racing built, 1969 Z-28 Camaro, with a "pieced together" LT-1? It was named "Blue Maxi".

After C&D thrashed it for a few months, they gave it away in a contest. I do remember filling out as many entries as I could!! I often wondered whatever happened to the car, and 2-3 years ago, I think it was 'Super Chevy' magazine did an article on it. The original winner of the car, who lives in NJ, still has it, and had brought it to a local car show.

I worked at a Chevy dealer after school in 1975-76. One of the mechanics had a Riverside Gold 1969 T-top that we all thought was an LT-1. It had the correct hood and pin striping, so it definitely looked like an LT-1. The car would only have been about six years old, so I'm guessing it must have been fairly common for people to make their cars look like an LT-1.

I believe the L-46 engine was essentially an LT-1 engine with hydraulic lifters and a Q-Jet carb. They are prized by the '69 C3 community.

And the subject Car could be a 1970 built in 1969, and I have even seen the Registered year end up on the pink and Reggie as 1969! I have a 1965 El Camino which has been a 1964 Car since originally being sold!

Our Dana Chevrolet 1968 Corvette, in 1968 left the dealership new with solid lifters and cam and a Holley, etc. and Dealership Mods!

I have seen the Blue Maxi Camaro at the NJ car show that he used to bring it to. It was pretty original and actually a pretty neat car. Had an entire story board about it. I think it was all original.

I've seen several 70 LT1's that began life as a L-46 that would easily fool all but the most well informed. I see no reason a number of similar 69 LT1's wouldn't exist.

According to the article that I read in 'Super Chevy' (at least I think it was Super Chevy), the owner tried to keep it as original as possible, but did have to do some maintenance to the car over the years, and experienced some issues in getting parts for it. Apparently the Penske shop used some rare, and really HD parts on this car, and those parts became almost extinct over the course of time. But kudos to him, for doing whatever it took, to maintain the originality of the car.

you'd better have a real 1969 matching L46 than a fake non-matching 1969 LT-1.

I don't think Jerry's the original owner of the car. I'm pretty sure he was friends with the person who won it, and bought it from them, in 70 or 71. Though most of the components of the car, such as the LT-1, are original too it, it was restored a few years ago.

Somewhere around on one of my many SD cards, I have a bunch of pictures of the car, including the engine, interior, etc, but this one was easy to find, since it's on my phone.

I've long since forgotten what you had to do, to enter the contest, but whatever it was, I did it as many times as you could!! I was 17, a junior in high school, and "carless" at the time, so I would have been "over the moon" had I won it.

i put a lt1 in a 68 that came with the 327/350.

Hi I own a 1969 corvette lt1 and it has the lt1 hood and the lt1 console the color is Cortez silver but I dont onow a lot of information on these corvettes so I need help it has a luggage rack and a black vinyl interior with 350 motor with 11:1 compression and the 4 speed close ratio transmission

No disrespect, but there were no factory 69 LT-1s. Do you have any original paperwork with your car? What are the numbers stamped on the engine pad?
