Blend the brakes, did a test drive and it was successful. Had to help dad do some maintenance on his Cessna.

Beautiful LS5 ZRXGreen. The panel gaps look good as does the fitment of the bumperettes, which makes the '72 amber parking light lenses even more strange. You usually see that with cars that have been hit in the front, but your car doesn't have any of the usual tell-tales. Normally, the bumper and bumperettes never fit right after a front end collision repair, they leave out the headlight shields, or they use 71 bumperettes with screws instead of tabs on the long section of the "L".

Thank you JohnnyQuik. The original owner (who still knows the neighbor he sold it to) said it had never been in an accident and I believe him. There are no signs whatsoever that I can see that it has ever been in one. As you said, the gaps and fitment are stellar. I think the '72 parking light lenses has more to do with one that may have been cracked from a stone, and they were simply replaced with what was available.

I appreciate your insight!

Jerry, The information I have shows the bumperettes with no bottom screws used throughout 1970 and for the first 1450 cars of 1971. There was another change in June of 1971 to delete hole for the fiber optic socket.

FWIW, my 54k mile car was a July 20 "late" build and has the no-screw bumperettes.

The NCRS manual has the 71 style with the screws being used on a 70 after vin 13,600 and through 71. I have seen many late 70's with the screws.

Oh I have no doubt that the factory mixed the old and new styles at the end of 1970 and the beginning of 1971 production. We've seen it with other parts like ignition shielding. A combination of a July 1970 VIN and three screw bumperettes seems fine.

Johnny i also have 71 style ignition shielding, a little earlier vin than the manual says, bought mine from original owner. Like you said late70 and early 71 was a mixed bag.

Mine is a July build (158xx) and the passenger side doesn’t have the screws while the driver does.

I have seen that other 70's also Duntov. If you have time to post pics. Maybe we can start a thread and see what other 70 owners have.

Our 8k series 70 LT-1, 49xx series L46, and 63xx series all have the no screw holes.

With the judging manual showing that I’m correct either way, saves me money. Still need to get a correct alternator, rather than the reproduction one I have.

Jr, I’ll try to get some photos sunday when it should dry out.
