Default Another headlight question... 81 C3

1981 headlight question:

A year ago I replaced a bunch of the parts to fix my headlights not opening. (new vacuum line kit to replace all hoses, new vacuum can, relays, and new light switch) Problem solved, but only for awhile.

After 6 months of working fine, I have a strange problem I am sure someone here knows how to fix.

When I turn on the lights, the passenger side opens perfectly. The driver side tries to open and succeeds for about 4 inches and then slowly retreats back down. When I slightly pull on the light it opens and stays open for the remaining drive. Here is the interesting part, when I turn the lights off, both retract perfectly.

Any ideas? I did replace the relay on the drivers side with a new one today and it did not solve the problem.

If the diaphram in the actuator is bad, then then actuator will not not go either up or down properly. If the rod seal is bad, then only the up function of the actuator is affected.

I just went through this recently. What helped me was getting a vacuum pump and going through the proper diagnostics to see if/where there's a leak or malfunction. It's a fairly simple process.

But it sounds like a diaphram leak. When you say you got a new 'can', did your replace only one?
