Ok I am starting to get the interior bits cleaned up/replaced and have come across a few questions I hope someone can help with. First what color should the gear indicator be? It was missing completely so I bought a new one and its white, I swear I remember my 73 as a red color, I found parts of the old one and it appears reddish in color but badly faded. Also the heater control levers and the rear defrost switch seem to be faded to a chalky color how can they be made black or are the available as replacements. Last question the side console panels look like some bad shop class project what are they made of or does anyone know where to get some? I don't care about the carpet as I will be changing the interior from brown to black. I will try to get some pics up later to show what I mean. Thanks
My ashtray door on my 77 was beat also. I just spent $21 on a new one. Looks good.
Also I picked up some SEM Trim Black paint from the Auto Paint dealer in my town. I used it to paint the trim around the windshield and also on the heater *****. They came out real nice.
Hey those console side panels are just pressed paper/cardboard stuff. I used them as template and made new ones out of 1/8 inch wood from the Depot. I then applied a nice carbon fiber film over them and they came out pretty nice also. much sturdier than the original parts.
Thanks for the reply my side panels must have already been repaired that way but instead of carefully cutting them out it appears they were done with something as precise as a chainsaw so I guess I'll start looking for replacements. How did you get your rear defroster switch to look so good? Mine is so chalky I didn't even realize there were words on it.

The 77 defroster switch is an ON OFF type and I couldn't find a replacement. I got a 78 defroster switch which is a ON (momentary) and a OFF (momentary) with a center position. I just worked up a new relay circuit to get this switch to work in the 77 with out getting the timer board that is used in the 78s and up.
Original indicator color was indeed red. Actually closer to a fluorescent red. Pay no attention to the kitty cat in the interior. mike...
Best overall shot of interior that I have. Let me know if you need more. Oh Yeah, Krylon 1613 at Wal Mart is a pretty close match to the console plastic. Most will say it is terrible but with new plastic pieces it matches well.
