I wanted to make a separate post for some things on the 69 donor car. First, can the wiper door be opened manually. Don't want to force anything.
Thanks
R
Yes it can. I just grab my door in the middle, pull forward and lift at the same time. Others pull the rubber plug off of the vacuum actuator and push a screwdriver in to open it.
Hi r,
It's a good idea to remove both the red and green hoses from the wiper door actuator before cycling the door by hand.
It can be hard on the seal on the plenum in the actuator if you don't.
The same thing applies to the headlight actuators.
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan, had some spare time while things were drying so I thought I would start looking at things, one of which was the wiper door. I will give it a try.
Thank you

Most people do not realize that both the wiper panel and the headlights are made to be opened manually, if something goes wrong. Lou.
Oh , that sounds easy enough. I will try that tomorrow. Then I can remove the stainless trim by getting to those side screws that my project vette did not have. Thank Lou, talk to Sunday.
I wouldn't try to open the door by just grabbing it and pulling it up. The vacuum actuator has a rubber plug on the outside forward facing side of he actuator..this is the case for the coffee can actuator or the two adjoined pie plate actuators. REMOVE the rubber plug and insert a large diameter punch or similar shaft, and with hand pressure push to open the door window. At the same time, it will help if you have extra hands on the door to pull it open while you're pushing on the actuator through the help hole. I've done this several times. Hand pressure...light..no hammers.
I know that I have been fairly lucky with mine for 42 years. One time the wipers did not work and not being that electrically inclined...read that I did not know how to trouble shoot with a meter, I changed my 68 wiper motor only to find out that it was the firewall switch.
One amazing thing is that the eight wiper grille screws have never had the heads rust. That is unbelievable, considering the 4 1/2 years that it was my DD in Cleveland, Ohio.
Did I mention that they have a salt mine under Lake Erie, to dump salt on the roads in winter? Lou.
