What did you do to your C3 today?

First I sprayed "Super Clean" and let it soak. Then I pressure washed it. It still didn't take off all of the years of built up oil and grease. So I had to resort to lacquer thinner, scotch bright pads, rags, and good old fashion elbow grease. Messy but effective.

Replaced the water pump with a Flowkooler pump to increase water flow in order to bring temp down, and put smaller jets in the carb to help with the fuel usage. One added bonus from this is the improved sound at idle. I have a parade in San Diego tomorrow, so that will be my official test for the temperature.

Adjusted points to .035, replaced door ajar switch, and adjusted tie rod. The acceleration is much more responsive, the door ajar switch light turns on and off as it supposed to, and the steering wheel and tracking is straight on!

Well didn't touch the Corvette, but I did pull the gauge cluster out of my 2004 Chevy Silverado and I rebuilt it as the gauges quit working 3-4 years ago. Yes, I have been driving my truck with no speedo or gas gauge for years. The others worked, so I had a general idea of things. Anyways I will just say that even though I spent $40 in parts and managed to rebuild the circuit board, the $400 dealer repair cost was starting to look pretty good. It was pretty difficult. But after those years, it feels great to have a working gauge cluster.

What a day - lol! Started with the radio... and then...
The big project was putting the dash/console back together - which was apart because I'd started with a "hey, the radio doesn't work, would be great to get it re-furbed..."
For those of you with kids, "If you give a mouse a cookie..."
So getting to the radio meant pulling out the dash...
And if you're gonna pull out the dash and the console, you may as well fix whatever else in the console needs fixing...
So the clock came out, and the oil gauge, and the water gauge (with the clock also being sent out to get re-furbed and re-screened)...
So 2 months later, I had all the parts back, and yesterday was re-build day.
Things came out a lot easier - lol - there is not a lot of play when the console gauges are all re-connected. So I had to fix 2 small broken light connectors (the little copper pins at the end of the grey bulb wires - rrr).
*BUT* In the end - all back together and got a chance to drive!
But now I'm getting the kick panel speakers re-coned because one is broken. And since I have the panels off...

Got Blue all uncovered yesterday, did some detailing and checked everything out. Today was our first cruise of the year! T-tops off! Could have been a little warmer, but it was still great.

Pulled the drive shaft and transmission, z-bar and clutch rods. Pulled fan, shroud, radiator, and hoses. Pulled carburetor, alternator and started on ps pump. Should be ready to pull engine on Thursday after a quick business trip. ZZ454 is on the way.

Not today, but yesterday, I treated my '82 to a new battery-the old one still turned over, but was struggling at times. Fires right up now.
So, I spent today driving the car all over the place to get an idea of what I want/need to do next...

Today I dug out of one of my garage cabinets, The steering gear box for my Vette. I took it of the car back in 2013 when I got the car and at that time I went ahead and took it apart cleaned all the old grease out of it , Blasted and painted the housing and just bagged and boxed it and all the internals so I can reassemble it at a later time. That time has now come.
Ready for some new seals and fresh grease.

I installed a ferrite core choke to eliminate problems I was having with my Retrosound radio playing MP3's from the USB flash drive. Music playback would often skip or not play at all due to the radio not being able to read the flash drive. I called Retrosound support and tried all of the repairs suggested by their technician, NONE of them worked! This does work; wrap the USB cable in a loop within the ferrite choke as shown; everything works perfectly now. I should have figured this out sooner being a HAM radio operator. You can purchase ferrite chokes from Radio Shack or Ham Radio Outlet.

Took all of the duct work, heater box, and evaporator core off of my '81. Got my new evaporator core and getting ready to put it all back together with new seals. Still painting the frame and engine compartment. Seems like I'm finally making some progress there.

I ordered some custom front wheel spacer/adapters to move the tires out another half inch and make the lugs attach much better then with using the usual 1/4 in loose spacers. Also yesterday finally figured out what my MDS ignition setup would have a very hard time starting and the spark was erratic at best. I guess the magnetic pickup makes a ton of noise and the Holley HP computer was having a hard time figuring out which was good signal and which was not. OMG what a pain in the butt that was to figure out.

i bought some tools to start my tool collection for the new garage. With the new vacuum I cleaned out all the leaves and crap the car has been collecting over the years.
