What did you do to your C3 today?

I've been detailing the wiper bay for a couple of days now. Thought it would take me approx. 8 hours. I have about 12 hours so far, and not even halfway this project.
Taking my time, which I think will pay off in the end. But really wish I was done, already!

I started a thread the other day looking for pictures of the wiper trough area. I'm about to start working on mine. What did you use to clean all of the gunk out of there? What tools and what chemicals? You have really done a nice job so far.

I am using a combination of scrapers, putty knives, razor blades, screwdrivers, and whatever else I think may help get the stuff off. Once I have the area somewhat clean, I use a small wire brush and sanding paper (ranging from 60- to 400-grit). A wide selection of expletives at the right time, help me stay on task.
I've also decided to trim excess material from the top of the firewall. I figured might as well since I do not want to do that once the bay is finished. In order to remove the excess fiberglass, I use a small backsaw, which works great for this purpose.
I've chosen not to use chemicals for cleaning this area.

CFL I am impressed with what you have accomplished. I am a slacker, I installed the wing nuts for my ignition shielding.
Still need to fix my EFE vacuum motor bracket and reinstall my AC compressor.

Thanks! Yeah, I posted a couple of pics there, too. Did not want to hijack your thread, but I plan to share updates from time to time.

I was referring to the extra firewall fiberglass that's bonded to the hood surround. Mine looked horrible, so I am removing the excess.
Here's a close up of the area I haven't done yet.
I am guessing the "Quality Control" at GM was non existent back in the 1970s (or 1980s, for that matter). Hard to believe they let cars leave the factory floor with such flaws. From the looks of it, I am guessing the router they used for finishing the area quit working?!?

Cleaning up the doors off the old racer. Also started pulling the weather stripping off the doors since it is beyond gone. I still need to strip the hardware out and clean it and repair/replace the handles. There is also some rust on the inner door so I will have to spray a fist inhibitor in there.

Pulled the car out of storage this weekend. It started right up after sitting for 5 months.
Installed a new door ajar switch to the drivers side. Door ajar switch and light now work like they should.
Installed new passenger side headlight relay. The passenger side headlight was always lazy going up and down so I figured it was probably the relay. After installing the new relay the first time I pulled on the headlights it actually startled me how fast and strong the headlights snapped up.
I sure enjoy it when little repairs go smoothly as planned and work when you are finished. :-)

pulled the Holley carb off my 1973 350 V8 to install the original Qjet carb.
Weather here in the northeast still bad, high today 26 F. Spring my *** winter still hanging around, car still in storage probably for any other month and 1/2. Still large amounts of snow on the ground and roads are salty.

Spent a few more hours in the garage today, chipping away at the wiper bay area. And I am not talking figuratively, but rather literally, as I had to use a metal punch and hammer in order to remove some of the excess seam sealer used by Chevy.
I am making progress, but had to remove the wiper motor (which also needs some detailing), and I sanded the top of hood surround lip... so I keep creating more work for myself.
Anyway, I need to sand some more so I can give the whole area a good cleaning, followed by a coat of primer to see how things look, then a couple of coats of Dupli-Color truck bedliner spray.
I also am about halfway done with part of the wiper arm assembly.

What we did today was surprise my daughters with OUR new 1981 Corvette, when they thought they were going to be helping with the brakes on their grandfather's C4.
Put the girls to work on changing the oil and filter, changing out the thermostat, removing some tail light louvers the previous owner put on, and put them on the internet to find a front plate saying something about "Corvette Girl". Got to love daughters that like Corvettes and grease under their nails.

figured out where the dangling wire goes. It plugs into the steering wheel, but there isn't any wires on the other side of it. Could it have been for cruise Control or something.
