Nice job. Mine was very greasy and packed with dirt. It was a messy but necessary job. I did the same thing to mine. You would not believe the difference on a hot Texas day.

I just did the gauge face and heater control illumination lights.* I should have done the HI BEAM, BRAKE and turn signal indicators too so I guess I might be going back in there sometime in the future.* I've ordered a PWM dimmer as neither the factory dimmer nor a separate potentiometer are giving linear dimming.

oh wow, i wouldnt have thought it would make a positive diff to the temps,

thats cool the diff in looks between the fiberglass and metal pans, i thought for a long time mine was fiberglass till i sanded through the insanely thick primer working on the interior

i imagine pretty much like this? Tonight's project.

Took it to a suspension/alignment shop.

I got lucky as @#$#@$ and believe I have found the best, most honest alignment guy in Phoenix! (Network on Bethany Home)

He replaced one wheel bearing, repacked the other, replaced one ball joint, aligned it, and she's like a brand new machine.

Instead of constantly wrestling with the steering wheel and feeling it lurch from side to side (like a car that's toed out)... excess "lag" in the steering response...

Instead it drives straight and I pretty much only have to THINK about where I want it to go. MUCH more stable. Not pulling to one side or the other. Tight, crisp steering.
Steering wheel centered like it OUGHT to be after a quality alignment.

I asked, don't you want to replace both ball joints? Or all four? Control arm bushings? ..

"Nahh, all of that is fine, no slop. But watch this. Put your hand on the ball joint while I pry on it. And look at this wheel bearing (RF).

I had planned on today being expensive. It wasn't.

I'm calling the pope. Perhaps the most competent, honest front end guy I've ever found / dealt with. In 45+ years.

Richard turned me onto this Zero Clearance stuff, it's great don't get me wrong... but I need a roller... the aluminum on this stuff is like working a coke can with your fingers... about half done insulating the underside and tunnel

the adhesive is super tacky, at first I was using 3M yellow high temp to the body, but I don't think it's needed... especially once it starts heat cycling from the engine and road it's going to practically weld itself in place

yeah it sucks to work with, but it's because the aluminum is THICK on it... yeah it's expensive... but at least this stuff feels like it's worth the price

I worked on putting a new 3/4" Van Steel anti-sway bar on the rear on my'81.
It has some plates that had to go between the upper inner part of the trailing arm and the head of through bolt for the spring. See figure 2.
Wow. Talk about a tight fit? I struggled getting these little plates in and lining up the bolt holes. It was hard to line up the holes in the plates with the holes in the trailing arms.
I'm going to complete the installation today if it all fits correctly. I'll be putting the end links on this morning. Then a test drive.

Street Rat, I will be anxiously awaiting your review of the Van Steel rear sway bar.

Nice day here Sunday, I took a short 1 hour drive on Lookout Mountain, topped off the fuel tank on the way home, parked her and covered until the next nice weekend.
Belated Happy Veterans Day to all our Veterans.

You caught me off guard on this one. Who is Ernie and what is the foil backed duct insulation used for?

Tracing a power steering leak and doing some underside clean up. The dogs make it awkward though..

The foil backed duct insulation goes on top of the Dynamat and under the Carpet.
And this is Ernie:
