Default Door Lock Woes

I pulled the electric door lock system out of the drivers door and cleaned and lubed it up. It was almost impossible to lock/unlock the door with the key. it's still a bit stiffer than I would like but it's much better than it was. I need to do the same to the passenger door.

There was an article about doing it a years ago.

I helped a friend do it 5 - 7 years ago on his 73. We got most of the parts from E Bay and Ricks Corvettes. Wilcox also has the. The real PIA was the tray.

If I find it. I'll link it.

Received the Edelbrock polished timing gear cover and the Quick Fuel billet fuel pressure regulator today.
They've been boxed up and placed in storage with everything else.

I must say, I have heard horror stories about dashes, and I now have all of mine out, and it's been actually, mildly... of all things... easy

only mildly difficult part was pulling the steering wheel, the dash cap was snug but when slid all the way forward and to one side it popped right out on the opposite side

BUT... disaster.. the driver lower dash is shattered, BUBBA... was there... screws missing, pieces held on with DAP bathroom calking... im absolutely amazed that the chrome trim rings were intact

carefully cleaned up the tach and speedo, replace the guts of the heater control panel and e-brake handle which was missing large chunks of plastic and chrome, both were a total PITA.

Its amazing how smooth the ebrake handle moves now, no more grinding and sandpaper feel... although the metal on the new handle is at least one gauge thinner maybe two, it had some wobble side-to-side, so I had to pull the roll-pin again and tuck a thin fender washer between handle and frame to reduce clearances and tighten it up.

Btw, does anyone know why the blue overspray on the speedo/tach buckets?

Hahahaha Yeah. Misery loves company. I'm with you though... getting it all apart was super easy and went faster than I imagined it would. Putting it back together will be an interesting endeavor.

Now if it would just stop raining.....

the rain of all things is whats responsible for me getting more done lol...

im supposed to be starting a new basketball arena, we cant do anything because the ground is hyper-saturated with water... so boss was trying to find me "make-work" and im like, man give that to ppl that need it. Ive got 4 weeks of vacation and car parts, im taking off for two weeks lol.

you know if the lower dash had alittle reinforcement it would solve a lot of issues with alignment... It's actually a very simple and nice to work on dash... deff better than those where you've got a massive internal skeleton that is weak and fragile that you have to man-handle out by yourself.

oh, and for those working with dash or interior pieces... "acquire" a good hair dryer... that makes working with these vinyl wrapped fiberglass pieces soooo easy and you reduce the risk of breaking them.

Hey guys there are 4 metal tabs that are very, very sharp on either side the car just below the A pillar/ Cover those up with heavy tape or small carpet & tape to save yourselves some grief.
Here's something to consider too: Vette Magazine March 2019 issue has a nice write up on C3 electrical upgrading.

Bwahahaha You do have a point there John... Though you might be thinking of Southern Ca. Northern Ca is a tiny bit wetter.... I'm not complaining about the rain per se.... We do need all we can get. I'm lamenting my timing..... If I had only cleaned out my garage when I intended to a couple weeks ago....

I'm where you guys are with the interior....

Lotsa wires!!!

BUT to the rescue- my Dymo labeler that does HEAT SHRINK TUBING!!!

Also fixed a fuel rail leak-

It was a straight cut AN fitting with an O-ring...

I tried several days - let the sealant cure for 24hours- crap leaking again.

Then- tried a Dowty seal- used for high pressure hydraulics-it worked-

Four wires- two pumps in the tank- running both- no leaks

My new polished, tall valve covers arrived from Teague Custom Marine today, boxed and up on the shelf.
Picked up my new Mk IV 454, 4 bolt main block, virgin, with standard bore. Magged, cleaned, tanked, Machine shop ran a .020 over sized bore though the cylinders, checked the decks and all bearing services.
They sprayed it with Cosmoline, sealed it in a bag and I brought it home.

no Richard your not in the same boat... you went and added abunch of wires and redid your stock system :P that's a lot worse

those Dymo's we use all the time for electrical, we use the canvas tags, but I did NOT know they made heat shrink labels... that's NICEEE!

I got dash repaired, had to epoxy almost all the mounting holes with the self tapping screws from Bubba
I got all the A/C tubes repaired, heated the ends with a heat gun and either flared or shrank the ends to make them fit perfectly and cleaned them inside and out
heater box repaired, top left tab epoxied back to usable shape and got all the valves smoothed out without binding when actuating

took nearly all day to recondition all the piping and blenders... im guessing these are aftermarket because they seem newer and GM didn't seem to be using poly tubing for ducts yet, but they are pretty nice and fit well

You just did. The sickness grows from there!!! Research you car problems well before you start. Make sure you have th AIM manual for it and simply ask questions. Your abilities will grow from there. Most of all have fun. That what these cars are for. Ike
