It was sunny today so I took the tops off and took it for a spin. I also installed new windshield wipers.

A followup to the regulator issue. I got the cheapie $21 regulator from Advance Auto. Originality Alert! If you want everything original, don't buy this. I had planned to see if it works, and if so, then put my lid on the regulator so it looks like a Delco Remy regulator and original.

However, I think it is a solid state replacement. It has a gray lid and riveted on so that you can't get inside. This is part of their warranty, so drilling out the rivets means it is a throwaway if it fails.

Anyway, it works great. I had several runs around town and then I took off to Lakeland on Saturday and put about 200 miles on the car. I thought it looked like the gauge had a slight discharge as I was getting close to home on the way back, but I think it was angle.

heater core was leaking, having it replaced; at same time tidy up some interior parts and a new fuel gauge.

I got It from chevy performance Parts. You can do the same thing with pulley setup off a late 80’s Chevy camaro or truck. I just Had it powdercoated and painted. But I love How it turned out.

Some of the components seem to sit a bit high. Have you checked your hood clearance yet?

I have Not checked. From what I read In previous posts and from the experience of people doing a similar swap, I never Read hood clearance was an issue. I also Have the L88 hood so that might make a difference. I guess It’s a hope and pray. 🙏🏻

Today, I removed the rear cargo shade’s trim, stripped off the remaining paint, and commenced to repainting it. I just got my ‘79 over the past weekend and am now in the process of restoring it.

I was asking because someone on the Summit site asked about installing in a 77 C3 and was told by the GM Performance people that it would not clear the hood. Your L88 hopefully will give the room you need. Good Luck!

Do you need to use the water pump from the truck/camaro?
Do you change the pulley on your existing PS pump or that comes from he donor as well?
Just wondering, don't think I can ever do the swap because of my smog pump.

You’ll need the water pump and full set of pulleys. The water pump is a reverse rotation pump. Let me know if you have trouble finding the parts, I have A whole used set in the garage.

Seeing that 95% of the bodywork on my car is done and it's engine is in and it's at last running. I figured that I can take this winter to completely disassemble the rear suspension and give it a complete rebuild. Previous owner had already done it but..... Let's just say it was not right. So out came everything including the rear diff and trailing arms. Got all the tools and most of the parts. Should be ready for the road around April. This time for sure.

Shade trim painted, installed.

The guy guy I bought my ‘79 from had recently put in a pioneer stereo which hasn’t held a solid ground and didn’t play through the new dash speakers I installed earlier in the week. Well, after removing the center console carpet shrouds I realized he had no idea what the he// he was doing.

he twisted the wires and held them in place with a half-a$$ed electric tape job, plus he had crossed the wires.

Needles to to say I have a good weekend in store for myself.

I installed and adjusted a new power steering control valve, and replaced plugs and plug wires.

No more PS leak, and the plugs and plug wires have significantly improved the idle and overall power. They were 20+ years old, so I guess it was time!

Replaced the two fuel hoses from the steel supply & return lines (on the right side frame rail) to the fuel pump. Both hoses were well aged and had become spongy from alcohol in the fuel I'd guess.

I've been nervous about this for a while as a significant fuel leak there would quickly lead to a fire that would take out the whole car before you know it.

My bigger problem is every time I get under the car, I find more crappy repairs that have been done over the years and my OCD dictates that I must redo the shoddy workmanship even though nobody other than me will ever see it.

Cheers
