Doing an OEM front suspension rebuild one side at a time.Newbie being careful. Many, many thanks to DUB for his advice!
So far so good. Got the spring out, got the control arms sitting on the bench.All in all the disassembly went easily - lots of Kroil and patience.
I read many posts about removing the old lower control arm bushings. Don't have a big compressor or an air chisel. Clamped it in my bench vice by the shaft. Just cut away what I could with a razor knife and Swiss cheesed the rubber bushings with a small drill bit. Rocking the arm back and forth let me pick out almost all the rubber. I left the inner remnant of the bushing on the shaft ends to protect them. Started with the rear bushing - the single hole end of the control arm shaft - and got under the outer flange with the tip of a big screwstick and with a few whacks popped it out just a bit. A little more Kroil and a few more whacks and it was out about 1/2". Grabbed it with a big vice grip and just rotated back & forth and it popped right out. Slid the shaft out and the other side was even easier because I could give the backside of the bushing a couple of whacks to pop it out first. Lather, rinse, repeat. Took me all of 20-30 minutes. Zero damage to the lower control arms themselves.
No biggie to many but maybe somebody who is also doing this for the first time will see this.

Installed a new coolant overflow resevior since the old one had sprung a leak. Also so far, replaced the left side windshield pillar weatherstrip. Right side to follow later tonight.
Primoz, nice polish, its amazing what a little elbow grease will do!!! On the actuator, I first sprayed some silver and green in various spots, like a camo effect and then I lightly sprayed the gold to let some of the color first colors bleed through. I don't let them dry so the layers mix somewhat. I love messing with these things. Instant "chromate", not perfect but nice!!!t Ike
Left lower pad roughly in, having issues with the left lip tucking in, but here is a preview of the leds! And thats with the big shop lights on directly above the car and the Ttops out
leds are direct replacements from superbrightleds.com, been using them for about 14 years and they've always been expensive, and always been worth it
as poorly lit as the interior is, i had no clue there were 30+ lamps in it!
man, if you've already got the hole cut in the hood put it back, bug catchers and tunnel rams look sooooooo good on old muscle/sports cars
why DID you change it? Tired of the twin carbs having you stop for gas every 50 miles?
I changed it because all of my cars have dual quads on a tunnel ram with scoops. I wanted a car I didn't have to watch the weather in. It rains a lot here in Florida. I'm making it up to her by putting in nitrous.
