Default 1971 routing upper heater hose

Hi, My cars back together. Looking at some pictures of engine compartments I noticed that some people have the upper heater routed under the ac compressor to the intake manifold connection. Mine is over the top of the compressor. Does anyone know the correct route?

If the over the top of the compressor is correct is there a clamp I can use to keep it towards the front of the compressor? It is rubbing against the air filter intake.

I'm the wrong one to ask. I think those hoses make a well appointed engine compartment look sloppy...IMHO. I figure if I only drive the car during our Texas summers, I don't need the hoses and so far I don't. However, there are real C-3 people on the forum who can quickly direct you to the right routing. Your engine bay really looks nice, congratulations.

Thank you.Iam sure I will get the answer. The hoses are new and I don't want the air filter snorkel to cut into the hose.I know I can make something but I like to get the proper clamp.

Both hoses go around the front of the compressor through a hose retainer bolted to the A/C bracket below the clutch before then connecting to the water pump and intake manifold.

Before you worry about the heater hose you should get you fan belts on the correct pulley.
The alternator belt goes on the water pump pulley closest to the engine then the air conditioning belt.

Also, is that a 134a adapter on the low side of the compressor, and the original schrader valve/cap on the high side?

yes, about the belts they were on backwards. I realized that after a few hours after reinstalling the radiator and flipped them but not before I took the picture .

I just looked and I do have the bracket. The lower heater hose is running though it. Now I have to route the upper hose though. The only problem I have is the fitting on the intake is straight. Is there supposed to be a 90 degree fitting on top on intake to route the hose down to the bracket in front bottom of compressor?

Default You made me look!

Glad you repositioned the belts before they flew off, front or rear pulley is an easy mistake to make.

Not ready for NCRS!
Glad you brought up about the heater hose. You made me look and mine goes over the top.
Is #4 from the AIM the part that the hose goes through? Cause I'm missing that part.

The original hose has molded ends for the sharp turn to go under the A/C compressor like the link attached. Please make sure you get the correct ones for your year.

I went and checked mine. They are also routed above the AC unit. It looks like I will be adding another project to get this routed correctly, and buying the correct hose for it.

thanks for the update on the thread

The paragon hoses are non ribbed. Are the originals ribbed hoses?

Thanks everyone for the great information and finding the correct parts for me.
I was wondering if the hose from the manifold would kink and now I see I need the correct molded hoses and a bracket.
Thanks again, Pete.
