Why is it that those need to bash a guys car....We should be able to be honest but if the guy wants the car great. Help him make it better. Don't shoot him...We should hope that ALL C3's get rescued! I know when I bought mine I was excited.. And I got the its gonna cost you a fortune to get that thing ready!....Yeah its needs work and its gonna cost but I am in it for the long haul.... About two months after I started tinkering with it, it was street legal and I am having a blast.
I have probably spent about $2500.00 getting it to this point...And yes just like this guys car mine needs painting which I may or may not ever do....So I want to encourage you to drive the heck out it and enjoy the heck out of your car......! russell

If that mind set keeps going newbies to vettes will not buy the cars that need saving the most and the land fills will get them...

I didn't take anything that was posted as a bash on my car.....I have a driver and that's what I intend on doing with it..... I might even get me a sign made for the car shows that says.... Please touch me.... I'm a driver.

Great looking car- NOW drive it!!!
If you need anything -feel free to call me.
I'm prepping my 73 for the Hotrod Power Tour in a couple weeks. Going to do the long haul again this year-about 3000 mile round trip.
If you get a chance - you ought to run over to Birmingham June 10- probably be 5000+ cars there!!!

Richard....June 10th just might be in the cards....I should have the "Clunk" fixed by then....Where can I find more info...? I will be calling, I need some advise on a few issues.
I swore I wouldn't buy a car that I didn't have inspected first....Well so much for that....I did get to see it up on a lift and used my inspection camera to check out behind the kick panels....The guy wouldn't let me pull the windshield trim so I had to make a decision based on what I had learned about these cars so far....I think I did OK but time will tell.

Congratulations and I think you got a well bought car!
Maybe I'll see you and the car around at some of the cruse-ins!
I'm up in Acworth and have both a 71 Steel Cities Gray Vette and a 70 Dark Green Chevelle.
I have a small two-post MaxJax in my basement if you ever want to bring the car over and have a good look underneath.

That should be the same round head key that works your rear compartment and your spare tire lock.

Thank You for the answer Barry....I will have to try it out.
I did get to pull the drivers side kick panel tonight....It looks pretty good for a 44 year old C3....I took a under the hood and an interior shot as well.

Time to start a To Do list....
1. Snubber bushing replaced....Got parts on order, I hope this fixes the "Clunk" when shifting. (Got to check fluid level in the differential).
2. Missing one of the set screws on the drivers side T-Top, ordered it with the snubber bushing.
3. Fix the drivers side mirror, it's loose where it meets the body.
4. Fix seat belts and get seats bolted down correctly. I need shoulder harness retractor covers and halo trim as well.
5. Trailing arms need to be rebuilt at some point.
6. New brake and clutch pads for the pedals.
7. Fix AC.
8. New carpet and insulation.
Those fixes will eat up the $1700 I saved and then some.
Seems like a long list....But I still get a big smile everytime I open the garage door and see it....I can't believe I own a steel bumper C3.

Yep.... Didn't see but one 70-72 coupe. Had the wife and grandson with me.... He kept saying just buy one I want to go for a ride. Lots of real nice newer and older ones just not many steel bumper C3's

Wow, what a great deal! You did very well on this one...nice how it all came together. Did the prior owner seem at all miffed that the fella he sold it to immediately flipped it? Just curious.
Again, my congrats on a solid find. Glad you have your 'vette!
Later,
Lee

I think he was more upset that he wasn't going to get to hand me the keys....He could tell I was looking a long term car to work on and love...When I was talking to him he kept saying he wished he would have called me back first but he was a man of his word and had to give the first guy the opportunity to buy it. I'm going early Saturday morning to get the title and the other items he has found that go with the Vette. So other than the cash he left on the table I think he is pretty happy about the whole deal.

Your list is small LOL.
Mirror should be simple were it meets the body. Remove the screw that hold the mirror and place and you should have access to the two screws that hold it onto the door.
I suggest while you do the carpet to lay down some heat barrier. Also order an interior screw kit as you will find or lost a few in the process.
Bag and tag everything when you take it apart.
