Default 1969 350/350HP motor restoration

I wanted to share my progress over the last 3-4 weeks, mostly working evenings after the kiddo goes to bed. This is my rebuild of my 1969 350/350HP motor with transistorized ignition, A/C and power steering (L46 w/K66, C60 and N40 for the RPO savvy). Not 100% correct, but will be discernible to the untrained eye.

Motor was bored 0.030" and 2.4cc domed pistons (original replacements) were installed. Heads were ported and milled to 64cc. New L46 camshaft was used (3 month back order!). A few minor tweaks remain (like shortening that A.I.R hose), but ready to install!

Beautiful job! Very detailed.

Should run as great as if looks.

A few years ago we restored a 66' 327/350 hp engine.. Did it similar to yours... All stock appearing but with forged flat tops, ported double humps with stainless valves, 3 angle valve job and Beehive springs... A nice crane HYD flat tappet cam similar to stock specs (224/230). It came out pretty nice as well and been a good street motor that easily runs on pump gas. Nice cruiser engine for sure and still pretty decent fuel mileage.

Thanks guys. You know what, I surprisingly don't have any newer photos of the '69. Here's an older (4 years ago?) photo, but nothing has changed.

Very nice Pete, the car and the engine. The average person will still think it's a stock 350/350. Good job!

No thunder stolen, in fact I'd encourage you to point out other incorrect items. It's all part of the fun. Unless it looks too out of place, I subscribe to the "if it ain't broke" mentality.

Pete, it all looks real nice from the side you are showing minus the fan clutch and the fuel hose on top of the filter. You do have the correct clips also.

Motor looks clean! A couple of questions, are you trying to stay stock as best you can? Why no headers? Also, what is the chrome piece that comes down (looks like it would come from the distributor cover)?

Thanks Alan! I do need to freshen up the rest of the engine compartment. The new shiny motor will most definitely make the rest of it look very dull and dirty.

A couple of reasons for no headers: I do like the stock look. Part of that look includes the A.I.R. manifold tubes, which thread into only the stock exhaust manifolds.

All the chrome you see (minus the air cleaner top) is the ignition shielding. If the car was ordered with a radio/stereo, it would have received all this ignition shielding. So from the distributor cap to the spark plug, the entirety of the ignition system was covered to prevent RF interference. If you ordered a car without these options, you would have not received any of the shielding.
