Default Upgraded Radio Install Wiring Questions

I am evaluating replacement radio options. Some of these new radios require a source of constant 12 VDC with the ignition switch on or off. Looking at the radio wiring diagram in the assembly manual, the diagram shows the gray and yellow wire going back to the fuse box. I was expecting to see a constant 12 VDC with the ignition switch off from one of these wires but I don't.

What have you done to tap a source of constant 12 VDC. I see on the fuse box there is an open terminal for a source of battery voltage. Is this where I should tap the power from? If so, where do I find a connector to fit the fuse box battery terminal?

Thanks,
Tom

When I took mine apart someone tapped the clock wire for the + constant.

I rewired mine with new wires going to the battery for ground and constant. Then used a relay and the factory yellow wire for ignition.

As with ddawson I ran my constant 12v from the battery, but used the original radio ground and accessory. Goodluck!

The BAT terminal of your fuse block is HOT all the time. Only the IGN terminal is switched on and off..................

Ah ha! I did discover a cut wire dangling from the clock...that explains that!

This may be my best option to tap power. Where did you find a connector to fit the fuse box battery terminal?

Thanks,
Tom

I was poking around the internet and someone said they used a common spade connector. Try it and see.

I'll give that a try. Thanks!

I assume I'll have to insert an inline fuse between the fuse box battery terminal and the radio.

Probably a good idea!

Hope it works!
