Default 1972 Barn Find Restoration

I located and purchased a 1972 Coupe that had the body lifted and left hanging for over ten years. I am the third owner of this car, first two guys were related and lost interest in the car. Frame was rotten so they located a 69 chassis that they intended to use for the car but it too was damaged and not a good candidate.

Here she hung for ten years in a barn.

Here she is lowered onto the chassis purchased for the car.

Interior is all original and covered in dust. I will clean it and assess the restoration to be completed in the months ahead.

This is a low option car built for speed and not for total comfort. This one does not have A/C, Power Steering, Power Brakes, no tilt/tele steering wheel and no power windows.

I will restore it to have power steering, a tilt and tell steering column and power brakes, all to make it a better handling and safer car on the road. Power windows and A/C will not be put on the car.

The engine, transmission, and body all have matching VIN numbers and the rear pumpkin, alternator, carburetor, all have the correct numbers and date codes for this car.

More plans being worked out now but this one has good bones to start off a nice restoration.

Thanks for watching.

David

The car has a SB hood, but has caps on the differential side yokes (and an after market rear sway bar). Was this a BB car originally?

You are out of control. Ha ha.

I'd love to see that Ontario Orange in person some time.

If the #s match I don't see how it could have been a BB originally. Doesn't 72 have the engine listed in the serial number? More likely someone changed the yokes?

David, sometimes a garage just doesn't have enough lift space! Nice find x 3.

Never a BB. The chassis was from a BB 69 which the previous owner was going to use on this car. I am taking the engine, transmission, rear end and going to put them on to a newly restored 72 chassis. Of course, that is once I have the chassis restored.

The 69 chassis will be built for the 72 racer perhaps, time will tell.

No BB, low optioned SB on this Ontario Orange.

The body is off the chassis now and the interior of the car is next on the removal list. I am inventorying everything that will need to be replaced and preparing for that now on the body. I will then put the body aside for a while and focus on the chassis.

If you want to see it you need to hurry, it will be a fraction of its current self soon.

No need to debate this guys. The original chassis was rotten due to water so the original owner was swapping it out for this chassis. Do base any decisions or discussions on this chassis, it is not original. What IS original is the engine, transmission, rear end, alternator, carburetor, and body. I will restore a 72 chassis (have it here now) and use that to put this car back together. I will update this car to add a tilt/tele, power brakes, and power steering. A/C will not be added and windows will remain manual.

I hope this helps.

Low optioned SB.

I hear you Dave. I have three bays and two lifts and I am struggling to accommodate two frames off at the same time, but I will make it work. Picture of the three cars has two on body dollies and the one on the lift is my restored 71.

Best regards,

David

I followed that car both times it listed on eBay. Think you got a good deal. I have too many projects and have experienced a few too many birthdays, or I would have been on it, too. Congrats

Default Light, Medium, What Do You Think?

Current color code is 421 Saddle Leather. I have been reading the posts about light saddle, medium saddle, dark saddle, and all of them seem to indicate that mixing and matching has become a problem for these cars.

Seats, door panels and carpet will all need to be changed in this car so I am considering replacing the interior but not certain which tan this may be. Thoughts out there would be welcomed.

What color is it???

David
