Just finished the drivetrain installation in my '80. Starting to reassemble the body. Should have the car ready for the paint shop next spring when the rains stop. When the car is road worthy, I'll have it on the road every weekend. My grandkids are toddlers right now, but riding in Grampy's Corvette will become an event for each one of them. On a side note... my neighbor two doors to the left has six Corvettes. One C-4, 3 C-5's and 2 C-6's; all garaged. In the two years that I've been living in my new house, I've seen him drive one of the C-6's once. He admits that he doesn't drive any of the cars. He likes his Chev 1/2 truck instead.
These cars are meant for driving....drive them or sit in your garage and look at it. I will take the fun part AND the sitting in the garage after driving it! Really, all this concern for value, chips in the paint, someone running into you, really?? I will never get it. A car, bike, motorcycle, airplane, etc are made for fun, made to operate, and should be. Otherwise, give the thing to someone who appreciates that.
And this insurance / classic plate B.S.? What....cops keeping track of this stuff, really?

yes, some occasionally get harassed for it. you pay $35 for a 10 year plate. that saves like $1000 maybe...in return, you give up the privilege of driving to work every day. only parades, car shows, and a free month in August...can't even drive it to get gas or a mechanic garage...at least in MI.
I could be wrong about this.....but it always amazes me how many 60-70 classics live 99% of their life stowed away in garages. There is always this B.S. about them not being reliable, so can't be driven, as if back in the 60's and 70's, cars lined the highways and back roads broken down! What some people call classics today, used to be the ONLY CARS ON THE ROAD! And people drove them from Pennsylvania to California. I say the because, this is all B.S., and the real truth is that people who own these cars simply choose to stick them in their garages, and make excuses about why they can't drive them. Its not the cars, its the people who own them.
Conversely, look at the Harley Davidson crowd, they ride their bikes, old and new, everywhere, all the time. They don't have that problem.
I think it is sad that more people who own these cars don't put them on the street where they belong. But, for some reason, they don't. With the exception of driving in salt laden roads in the winter, these cars should be used as daily drivers, and every chance you can get in the evenings and weekends. That is what they are for. Again, its not the cars being problems, its the owners who just don't climb in and turn the key. Its a real shame.
Good post and right on the money
I never see any old cars on the road anymore. 20 yrs ago every Sat/Sun youd see them everywhere, feel like the lone ranger nowadays
Guess the crowds getting older? driving mine til I lose the ability to
not often I get the chance but dont pass it up when I can
Life is short, what good are they sitting in the garage...to look at?
Buy a picture its cheaper

Agreed 100%.
I drive the hell out of this thing every chance I get and there are plenty of rock chips, bugs and tire sluff on it as a testament.
I will not save this car for someone else to enjoy after I die.
I plan to use it up before I can't drive anymore.
The next person who ends up with my 78 will have a full restoration job on their hands.
Just got back from Thano's in Barberton OH counted 2 C2's, 4 C3's, 1 C4, 1 C5, 1 C6, 1 C7, Cruised thru Wink's next door 2 C3,s plus anything from hot rods to a new Camaro with Baldwin Motion badges.
200 cars in the as an estimate and this was a slow night. We cruise here
I don't think they're really rare but rather not daily drivers like they were back when they were new. My '71 is my daily driver so it sees a lot of miles every year rain or shine.
I went to a decent size car show last weekend and saw 3 or 4 C3s. I've seen 1 out and about where I live. Met the guy and have been talking ever since. Saw one under a car cover that I've yet to meet and a new one going down the road yesterday. Other than that, you're right. Doesn't seem to be too many on the road anymore. Picked mine up about 10 months ago. Will be a while before it's out of my garage.
Took the Vette to work today.. It said 20% chance of rain when I left home this morning.. Now, I checked WEATHER.COM again and it says 50% chance of rain
Fk the weatherman!
This means that I'll be busy cleaning the car when I'll get home if I really get caught in a rain storm...

Mine is! Couple more years, and you`ll see one more out there on the road!
Same here. Body off restoration started after an unfortunate engine compartment fire. Chassis has been on jack stands and body on a dolly for the last 5yrs...

but most of us violate it without any issues
Pennsylvania Antique plate doesn't restrict me at all for the way I use the car. Don't need it for work I'm retired . The description that they use is exactly what I want the car for anyway. Car cruises , occasional use such as making an ice cream run on a nice summer evening with the top down , or a nice convertible drive in the country on the weekend. No problems here. If you don't want to play by the rules then you need a regular plate. The rules in your state are just nuts .

When did you get that plate? My PA antique plate has a stupid image of Model T on it that I wish I could white out. If this is a newer plate, maybe I will buy a replacement
I went to a local corvette clubs car show earlier this summer and saw 5-6 C3's and 3-4 C1/C2's in a packed car show (50-100 cars or more?) lot...all the rest were 1990's & newer (mostly new 2013-14-15's) it looked more like a dealership then a car show.
made me wonder what the state of "car shows" is at the moment, in the Non-vette area of the show besides the nova's ,chevelle's and street rods were new "customized" late model mustangs & camaro's? Is this the new thing, buy a car, keep the window sticker in the car to show how much you paid and put it on display?
Cool picture...brings back memories. Wasn't the Hungry Howies building a diner at one time? And the old Publix building next door still has the old retro look. My dentist many years ago was on S. Florida ave.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
