In the process of doing the opposite. On my '69 I am taking the '85 Corvette TPI set-up & putting a 750 DP Holley. I can't stand the characteristics of injected cars. My daily drivers up until 18 months ago were always carb'd & that's what I like. I got a late model Challenger for daily duty & now this '69 with a TPI for fun & I want it to be a carb.

I'm converting my 79 from carb to TPI.

While I have a bb and not that into TPI I am still interested as far as the tech and conversion goes and believe it would be a popular thread if you would post one as you do this....

How good are you with EFI? If you don't need an autotune feature you can pick up the Holley Commander 950 EFI on ebay for about 600

Yes, I'll do that. I'm still collecting pieces as money allows. Expecting a large sum of cash in January so I won't be ready to go until at least then.

What can't you stand? Long runners of the TPI engine I understand - tons of torque down low but a pretty low RPM ceiling that makes big motors feel like they're only good for spinning tires. Fun for some, but to me that's only appealing to a point.

The good news is that you could use a TPI ECM, harness and injectors and then put it onto an aftermarket intake if you wanted. The TPI ECM is pretty archaic compared to... pretty much anything made in the last 20 years, though.

My husband just finished modifying his 81 360 Dodge to multiport fuel injection and coil on plug ignition. He used a standard 360 4 barrel carburetor single plane manifold and injectors and ignition system from a newer GM (Vortec?) motor. He had to fabricate his own fuel rails, crank and cam position trigger wheels along with a somewhat complicated throttle system to adapt his factory throttle cable to the GM throttle body. He used a Megasquirt III computer he also assembled. He's got dual fuel pumps so he can switch if one fails and a pre-lube system that allows him to circulate oil through the motor before he starts it.

How much should I budget for a carburetor to fuel injection conversion, including all parts and professional installation?

Old thread, but FWIW I'm penciling ~$2,800 into the budget for Holley's Terminator EFI, Dual Sync dizzy (ECU managed) and Strip Dominator intake setup, a la carte plus incidentals, installed DIY. (Hi-perf 427 BBC.)

I have been researching this extensively, and will likely be purchasing the FiTech system. Figure around $1200, which includes the command center, if purchased from Jegs or Summit. I don't think you can go wrong for the price.

Includes the fuel pump and everything else? Another $1,500 in labor for the installation?

Install it yourself! It's just a handful of wires and a couple of hoses.

P.s. I love my Fitech.

It seems like everyone that owns one says the same once they get it tuned. Installation is pretty simple. It is a definite future purchase for me...
