Custom Dash-w/ a stock look
I'm on mock-up Version II w/ my Lamborghini Miura dash design-
Wanted sort of period correct for the early C3-plus I'm gonna keep the stock gauges. No screens (OK- that might be hidden...) and no billet aluminum...
This is what I'm trying to emulate-
Version I

Will have cupholders- just using the C3 console to test fit- will make something similar to the Lambo's console-I got rid of the Parking brake handle and went electric actuator.

Version II-
I know a little crooked- just held together w/ tape. Used some sch80 pipe for mock up and thinking some steel tube used for the substructure w/ definitely help w/ the cowl shake. The edge of the dash will look like the original C3 dash edge.
What do you think???

Here's the first piece I made- and unlike the stock dash - this goes in w/o having to bend!!!
It's ready for fiberglass- as I am really happy how it turned out

Couple thoughts for the AC-in place of where the radio was-
68 *****- w/ a Chevy C10 AC controller (Vintage Air sells one)

Looking at using 1990s Ford Mustang AC control and then incorporating the Vintage Air controls into it-
Gutting the Vintage Air controller- mounting in the Ford fascia.

Way cool Richard
I have my dash out now and was thinking of changing some things, but your ideas are definitely better. Best custom C3 dash ideas (my opinion) I have seen.

If you have priced the reproduction dash stuff-which you would also have to modify to make it fit. AND you can easily spend $1.5K. That also is my motivation!!
I have the original clock and a reproduction....so between the two I'll never know what time it is!!!
I didn't want a screen showing- but might to something hidden..still noodling that one.

*********UPDATE**************
I had some time this morning and made up the windshield surround-
Just used some felt type material and fiberglass resin- Will beef it up w/ some fiberglass mat. The aluminum tape works great- released from my mold w/o to much work.

Here's the gauge panel- will put a gauge in and make sure the angle is right.
I'm still thinking about what to do w/ the old radio cut out- I am even thinking using (3) 68 ***** with the Ford type layout - just have to make a mold of the way the ***** are recessed- and go from there.
The gauges are only a inch or so further out than the original dash-

I dig it a lot,
I do not like modern things on a c3 and most times when people do the custom dash thing they do some valley of lights that would make david hasslehoff barf or just try to copy some late model, but the lambo dash looks like it could have been a factory 68 dash when the 68 came out, it has the classic looks, ahem, will you be pulling a mold or just one off for you?

Thanks!!!
Hey Paul-
Yea- I see some screens and lights in the dash- and it just doesn't look right- except this one!!!
Tarantula_Interior_02 by Richard Hayes, on Flickr
I have sort of a mold- but thinking who would want to copy this? Nobody has yet asked me for the V12 motor mount bracket dimensions!!!
Thank you!!!
I have seen it done a bunch of times- seriously looked at the idea- but I wanted to the non-Corvette person to do a double take- and think maybe they did come like that from the factory!!!
If you look at the design of the factory bezel- a lot of time was spent getting the angles right-I'm trying to copy that and make sure the gauges are pointing right at me- especially that water temp one!!!
Here's what I did tonight- I've moved the gauges further out in the console- and a little more work -need a new blade- but have them almost to the edge. I'll put a slight angle toward the driver side and I think I have nailed it- here's the view sitting in the drivers seat-

Myself I would get rid of the center gauge panel altogether. Any way you do it it will look like you tried to make something fit that shouldn't be there especially the A/C in the radio spot.
And it would be no big deal at all to just make one of your own, plate with holes in it above, A/C below. Make the 6 gauges like you want to emulate and get rid of the warning light rectangles.
Radio if you want it. I think in these cars radio doesn't really matter and wouldn't be missed at all.
Great idea though. And nice to make something to look period.
Very nice you made the speedo and tach work because they look better than any aftermarket you could get.
Oh yea, NO FORD PARTS.

And I have to have the patience if I ever want to drive this thing again!!!
I've always thought it was a neat car- I mean they built the transverse V12 chassis -then put a body over it. AND if you squint your eyes- the dash layout looks strikingly similar the the C3

I'm not going w/ a radio- as I have sidepipes and 12 cylinders!!!
Still noodling over what to do below the gauges- and yes the original ones are great looking. Ummm- already have some Ford parts on it...
Had a little time this evening to figure which way to go-
I used some 1/2 tube and was able to bend it in the curve I wanted. Threaded the ends- and just bolted it in.
Has the look I want- but going to have to shorten it as it's too far out- maybe 3 inches or so- as it's almost 5" out compared to the the original dash.
Probably do some type of 'birdcage" to mount the dash and stiffen the cowl up.
Might go to the U-Pull-it yard tomorrow and see if I can find some cool looking defroster vents and a glove box...
Thoughts?

Messed w/ the layout a few hours today-
Shortened the dash- so it's only a couple inches proud of the original dash.
After mocking it up- I think I'm going to move the hoop in one more inch and the center console out an inch. I'm happy w/ the angle and the dash looks proportional to the car.
Metal hoop covered w/ padding- about an inch or so lower than the factory-

Here's what I am thinking- I like the looks- still needs some tweaks- but getting there!!!

Here's the dash through the windshield- actually looks better than I imagined!!!
