Default Leather Shift Boot

I recently had some fun replacing the center gauge cluster and lower shift boot on my 72. When I installed a new leather shift boot, it doesn't seem to fit right. It seems like it wasn't made with enough leather. The leather stretches out when I throw it into first or third gear and almost seems like it wants to pull the screws out when I put the car into reverse. It doesn't look right or feel right.

Have any of you replaced your leather shift boot with a new one and were happy with the results? If so, where did you buy the boot from?

Thanks.

Replaced the boot in my 81 in the spring. it was so tight, especially going into reverse, I thought I had the wrong one. When comparing to the one I had, it seemed like the old one went farther up the stick than the new one so I had wondered if the old one was from an earlier model. I would have to go back and check but I believe there was 1 boot for 77-82 and another one that was listed thru 76. it has since stretched so it doesn't pull so hard in reverse, but still would have preferred it to go farther up the shifter.

Logan 176 I can't help with brand name, but mine fit like a glove. I got mine from a corvette shop in Tampa. There was no name on the clear package. It is up on the shifter high with no stress when shifting.

I put one on my 72 in the spring and although I had my share of defective aftermarket parts this boot fit very nice . I don't know who made it but I bought it from Bair's corvette in Pa.

Thanks guys. Not only did the old boot go further up the shifter, the opening at the top seemed larger than the replacement. I just found an original leather boot on eBay that's in good condition. If that doesn't work, then I'll check out Bair's.

Red Line, a vendor supporting the Forum, makes an exceptional nice one that can be ordered with various custom touches. It starts as 4 pie shaped pieces that are then sewn together from the corners instead of a single piece with one seam.

I think I may contact them. The boot from eBay arrived and the fit is just as tight. My old one must have really stretched out over time or was an aftermarket part with a little more play.

I feel your pain

I bought. Replacement from the Local Chevy dealer . ....back in the early 90's , they were still available . Still looks good ....in a convertible

The originals were heavy leather . They would last a good 20 years even in a convertible.

I saw the new repo stuff at Carlisle

Very poor immiation .
