Default WW switch question

Replaced the lawn mower ignition switch my 68 convert's previous owner, Bubba Dumbass, used with a correct factory ignition switch and GM key and while all of the panels were off (including removing about a mile of rolled up radio wires) I decided to check out the windshield wiper/washer switch. Wipers do not work and wiring in engine bay is messed up with cut and spliced wires. Attached photo shows the switch with two blue wires coming from the wiring harness connected to one terminal. No power to this wire with either key on or off. I looked for any wires long enough to reach the switch and found three (cut off, of course) rolled up and tied behind the passenger foot well. One is hot with key on or off, the other two are cold all the time. Can't really tell the color of the wires so my wiring diagram is not much help. Does anyone have a photo of the correct wiring connection to the switch? I do not have the wiper door. (also, note Bubba only used one screw to fasten the switch) RA

If it's the same as a 72 the switch is grounded via the dash. When you select "high" it grounds one wire, "low" grounds two wires, and push to wash grounds another. It doesn't switch voltages, it switches grounds, and if the mounting plate isn't grounded they won't work.

John- so it looks like Bubba got part of it right, but has the double blue wire on the wrong terminal. Hopefully I can find the other two wires and they still have enough color to ID them. I did find an image online, but it had an extra wire and colors were all wrong. I also watched a video of the bench test of the motor and the peculiar way that grounding one or two wires change the motor speed. I should have taken a photo of the rats nest of wires before I pulled them out. I have never seen such a mess. Thanks for your help. RA

All the wires enter the harness together. It is right below the ignition switch on my car. See picture. Should be pretty easy to trace back unless Bubba was skilled with a wire cutter.

John- thanks. This will help. Unfortunately, the color on my wiring is faded and not nearly as clear-cut as yours. There are several loose wires I will have to trace and see if they come out on the firewall near the wiper motor and then try them to see if they work. RA
