In a related story about fifteen years ago I bought a 1967 big block Corvette convertible up in NY from a guy and the car was originally a 4 speed car but the guy went to Viet Nam and lost a leg and couldn't drive the car any more so a bunch of his buddies converted it over to an automatic . When I bought the car it still had the automatic in it along with the standard shift pedal assembly and the original 4 speed also came with the car so I converted it back. I thought it was a great gesture for his buddies to all chip in so he could drive it some more and show some of the respect that those veterans never got.
