Default From a value standpoint, does NCRS Certification substantially help?

Just curious as to what everyone thinks. Not sure if I want to go through the process of getting my car to meet NCRS spec. The good thing is my car is a number matching 72 LT1 coupe with the correct colors. But little things are not original or correct like the carb, shocks, springs, sway bars, battery, etc...

Does an NCRS certification substantially increase the value of a C3?

Hi n,
I think it's up to each individual to decide if having a car Flight Judged adds to it value. And if it does, is it substantially????
However, I believe that it must be a good thing to have had a car Flight Judged or it wouldn't be mentioned so often in For Sale ads, and also occasionally mentioned as one of the things a buyer would consider a plus about a car he's looking to buy.
Regards,
Alan

They certainly make a big deal about it at auctions like Barrett-Jackson and Mecum. I've never seen any Vette with any of the NCRS certs run over the auction block on a Thursday.

If you're looking for a high level, original car, then the TF is certainly an indicator you're on the right track. You still have to inspect it carefully to make sure the parts are still there.
As to value, it apparently only hurts value to people that like modified cars.

When I was looking, I didn't consider cars that weren't TF'd, and yes they were priced higher as a result. I don't think anyone in their right mind would dispute it.

Alan on this subject I think most judging helps some in Value increase .
On another subject are you familiar with the white "chalk" markings on the body of C 3's

I think the value of a top flight car is higher than one that isn't. The only exception being maybe a restomod. I think for your situation as it was for me, it will cost you more in money for parts than you will recover. It depends on if you enjoy the experience of accomplishing the Top flight yourself. To do it just for the increase in value, my guess would be you would be lucky to break even after what you need to buy to accomplish it..

As Zoomin says, even after a car has been TF, it depends on what condition the car is when it is sold. So many parts could have been taken off the car since the TF and sold off.

Guess I'll say it.....NCRS doesn't "CERTIFY" anything.

they judge the car based on a 4500 point system from a "standard" or the judging guide. for more sought after cars or engine options yes the NCRS top flight will help. for your run of the mill car probably not so much. but really chapter top flights are not all that hard to get. the regional and national top flights are the ones that are hard to get

THAT'S THE TRUTH!!

That being said I think TF is very nice to have, but as mentioned above, make sure everything is STILL on the car that made it Top Flight. For example, every Corvette was Top Flight at one time.....the day it was finished at the plant. But that does not mean it stayed that way. Same with a car the went TF a week ago.

Also, NCRS TF does not make a car ORIGINAL, although eBay sellers will say it does. It doesn't. They (the sellers) will lie about what TF means and imply it makes the car authentic.

I think it definitely helps with increasing value but its just a part of the value. Many things need to be taken into consideration.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

Now, if the wording can be posted in a way, not to offend, then all three sides should be heard.

Here's some suggestions for lively threads:

From a value standpoint, does Pertronix substantially help?
From a value standpoint, does matching numbers help?

Value is in the eye of the bee holder, as they say. It's the combination of things that substantiate the worth of a car. Condition, originality, paperwork, numbers, options, drivetrain, rarity, ownership history all play a part. Absent the other things, a TF doesn't mean much.

Did you buy it to resell or to enjoy?
If you made it TF perfect would you still drive it? whats the fun in that
Buyers are out there for either or personally means nothing to me except it will probably look nice and stock if thats your thing
