Default Headlight actuator design

Anybody have an idea why the rear vacuum tube on a headlight actuator points the wrong way? I'm assuming for hood clearance, but it seems any other direction than what it is would be better. Just replaced the drivers side and have never had it work so good. Probably will replace the other soon. BTW, would there be a problem swapping? (probably the hood clearance thing?) Thanks and to all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Bill.

What do you mean the wrong way? I haven't messed with the actuators very much, but I don't think the direction should matter as long as it's connected

The tubes are pointed outboard which, IMHO, could cause kinking. I haven't heard of anyone else bitching so I guess it's no big deal. The swapping thing: They are designated L/R so there must be a reason. I just wondered. Regardless, thanks for replying and have a great weekend, Bill

Hi B,
When production began for 68 the tubes both pointed to the left side.
In addition the tubes weren't at the 6 o'clock position they are now but were rotated to about 7 o'clock.
Early in the 69 calendar year the tubes moved to the positions we now see them.
I've always thought the position of the tubes had something to do with the hood clearing the tubes and hoses.
But???
Regards,
Alan

Exactly...because I have dealt with where the actuator pods were switched and it BECOMES an issue....and on some cars it will be OK...while others it will fail and you will chip paint on the edge of your hood. Too many possible variables...so I leave them as GM intended.
