Looks like our cars were built pretty close together 71Green454. I have a repro sticker on my door but still have the original one. I had Joe Puleo do mine too. He is located in Watchung NJ. If you need his info send me a message. My build date was 4/16/71.

I have a question regarding the decal on my 72...
It shows the VIN apparently in the correct imprinted font (at least as far as I can judge that)... However, the manufacturing date is missing. Did that happen once in a while or is that an evidence for a non-original/reproduction VIN decal?
Cheers...

Hi Rene',
Sometimes original labels are lost when cars are painted.
Beginning for 72 all the info put on the label was typed not done from the p-o-p and typing.
I guess it's possible that something was missed…. but not typically.
A picture might help someone with an experienced eye determine if your label is an original or a reproduction.

Hi Alan,
it seems that the label was tape covered to protect it when the car was painted 20 years ago. So it looks original, however the manufacturing date in the upper right corner is missing.
I will try to find a picture and post it!
Thanks!
René

Check corvette central or one of the ofher parts suppliers. I just saw it on one of their sites. They is one authorized to reproduce and does the imprint ihem you provide the vin and proof
Of ownership.
I dont recall but i just saw it like a week ago.

Hi dmx,
I've not heard of a method to remove it and then get it back in place. But there may well be one.
I'm not even sure if the clear protective layer comes off and then the label or if they come off as one piece.
With some creative taping and spraying the label often can stay in place.
The jamb in my picture has been painted (acrylic lacquer) with the label in place.
Regards,
Alan

I was successful at removing and reinstalling one. As you can see in the photo, I have the paint off and just the sticker. I was very lucky and it pulled off with just having to cut away the outer 1/4" +- edge of the plastic covering. Then I bought a sheet of clear laminate at the hobby shop cut out the size (1/4+- larger than the blue sticker) as original and applied the clear right over the old sticker (that still had its clear cover). I don't think you should try to separate the clear covering and it's label.

Just for fun, using the photos on this thread for a guide, I played around with different fonts on the computer for the text and VIN, found a GM logo online, resized it to very small (using Word), cut it out and pasted it on the blue card stock, then hand drew the outside black rectangle with a sharpie and cut it out with scissors... heck of a lot cheaper than the repros, and in the ballpark...not useable but I may try again!

Hi B,
Looks pretty nice for a first attempt!!!
It appears that the first line needs to be in a larger and bolder font.
I'll be interested to see how this progresses!

I think you're right re: the first line needing a bolder larger font...
Also have to figure out how to get the VIN so it's not in line...originals all seem to be on a slight downward angle from left to right...
I may give it another go!

Bally
