Default C3 painting!

Hi guys, fairly new to the whole corvette world here in the uk. Bought my 1971 c3 about a year ago that needs a bit of work to get it on the road.
I have stripped all the old paint off and it is sitting in bare fibreglass now. As recently my funds for this project have gone down very low I won't be able to get it painted professionally, so will have to do it myself.
I'm thinking about using rustoleum combi colour applied by a roller (don't hate me!) haha. Have seen some pretty good results so with a bit of time and patience I think it will work well. The only thing I'm stuck with is the primer/ surfacer to use, seems like there are so many different products out there and finding one that will work with the rustoleum paint aswell. Any advice or information would be great, thanks

All the real work is getting the body ready to paint. You can do that your self ...just takes time. If the body was flat and primed I bet someone would shoot just the color and clear for very cheap. I have not done the roller thing but I too have seen good results from that BUT...its all about the body work.

The only time I ever saw that was on a friends boat. I could not believe he used a roller to apply the paint.

Read the label on the Rustoleum. It will probably mention the type of primer to use. Off hand, I would think Rustoleum primer would be compatible with their color coats.

I'm still a bit confused about the different types of primer sealer. Have seen epoxy, urethane and polyester I think? Anyone got a idea of what might be best for me to use? Thanks

If you do a forum search on "rustoleum" you'll find several members who've documented going that route with mixed results. Some full of helpful hints.

However the paint is laid down, imperfections can be addressed with wet sanding/cutting and buffing.
As for primer, contact Rustoleum and use what they recommend.
Good luck, you know we'll want to see pics.

I have painted a car using the roller technique when I was younger. I was going to use the rustoleum but decided to use interlux Brightside paint. It was self leveling , hard gloss topside paint. You really need to do your prep and make sure the paint is very thin while applying. Though it took several coats and a long, long time, it sure turned out nice. I sold the car a few years later but the paint still looked good. I seem to remember it cost about 100.00 to do the work.

Sorry should of been clearer in this post. I was meaning to ask about the type of primer that is used normally. Just gathering my options if there is not a suitable rustoleum primer. Thanks
