I also wonder which changed first, the open air cleaner vs. duel snorkel, or the chrome valve covers vs. painted valve covers. Maybe someone here knows.
Also, is that a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel line going to your carb. along with a rubber fuel line?
The duel snorkel started in '70 so wouldn't all '71s have it?

Yes that is a create Gen V motor in it right now with electric fuel pump, came to me that way. I plan on running that until I have a chance to rebuild the original engine. Doing the Body and chassis first. I plan to keep things close to original with a few reversible upgrades in the suspension etc. I appreciate all the beautiful original LS5s out there but I want to swap out a few things to give it a bit of my taste too. Nothing that can't be put back with a few bolts.
Thanks JR, I knew you would know. I started at the bottom of the C3 registry page (high#) for '70's with 454's and I only saw open breathers. Maybe some people changed them to open breathers.

Mines a July 20 build with the dual snorkel type. I just noticed my engine pic on the C3 Registry is terrible or some reason. Guess I should figure out how to replace it.
The current judging manual as I recall says both ignition shielding and air cleaner are acceptable both ways. My 70 LS5 had the dual snorkel unit on it, VIN is 158xx, with full shielding. I put an open element on since I find it more attractive
, but the dual snorkel is on the shelf.
