Default 69 Vintage Air Install

Hi All,
I am looking to have Vintage Air Installed in my 69 Corvette, being that I live in Southern California In the High Desert I thought this would be an easy Find But After several Phone calls and no call back's I am guessing no one really wants to do this. I called Corvette Specialty in Riverside Ca, Oh my They want to get rich on one A/C install, $2500 for the Vintage Air Kit
The Kit that hooks up to the original thumb wheel and $ 2500 for Labor.
Now my guess is there will be something they find where it would cost more. So has anyone had this Vintage Air kit Installed in there C3 lately and in the Riverside, San Bernardino or Pomona Ca Area. I am sure I could do the Install but I also have a 70 Corvette I am doing a Semi Restoration on at the Moment, Time is not of the Essence but quality is. So if anyone knows someone in this area let me know, it would be greatly Appreciated.
Thanks again All, Garry

My buddy has a 69 (I have a 70). We installed Vintage Air in his a few years ago ourselves. It was not that difficult. We plan to install on mine next, but since his was installed we have both got married and had kids. So, "hopefully soon" is when we will install it in mine.

I know this doesn't answer your request for a reference, but I say "You can DO it !!"

Hi Navy 01,
I have no doubt that I could install the unit and get it going but my delima is I have a 70 Corvette 350/350 HP that I am doing a restoration on and need to have the 70 completed and in transit to Austria before Summer. I am just looking for qualified A/C installer to do the 69 so I can Finish the 70. I just hate to have to Drive into L.A. to get this Done, so I am looking for someone closer to Home. I really would like to do the Install seems to be straight forward. Thanks, Garry

I installed Vintage Air in my '34 street truck......BRRRRRRRRRRRR!

For $2000 I'll drive over to your place and install it.....you can supervise to make sure each step is done your way.......and I won't hit you with "unseen problems"............LOL!

BUT........I will need 2 weeks advance-notice.....I want to do some sight-seeing on the way there!

Hi I am in the process of installing Vintage Air on my '69 vette that did not have factory A/C. Any suggestion on where to connect the 'violet' run wire? Also, what is the voltage required for it? I ran it to the Accessory position on the fuse block and am getting only 8V. the blower will not turn on at this point.

Default how many hours?

How many hours in the quote?

Others here have more experience than I, I installed VA in a 68 and getting ready to install in another 68. For me, I do not think I could do it for 40 hours. 40 hours times $50/hr loaded shop rate might be in the ball park.

Also, a very doable project if you follow the VA directions which I found to be pretty good.

Hope this might help.

(Trying to remember what terminal I tagged onto on the terminal block on the 1st 68, sold it so can not look, needs to be a key on 12 volt source. Sorry I can not remember)

I was looking into it as well. The shop quoted me $2800 which includes the VA Surefit.

Give Steve Allen at socal vette's a call. If he cant do it im sure he will be able to point you in the right direction. His number is 619-210-4444. I bought my front clip and rear upper surround from him. He does give a military and veteran discount as well.

I installed mine in a '70 non-AC car a few years back. Not too difficult if you take your time and follow the instructions. They have changed the kits lately and they now look to be even easier to install. The biggest problem most people ran into was how to stuff all that duct work inside the dash. They appear to have addressed most of that now.

Sidebar: I was getting only 6 volts out of several terminals on my fuse block.......it turned out that internal connections in the fuse block were badly corroded and the problem couldn't be seen while I was taking readings with the voltmeter.
